Amongst the 23 production and concept vehicles General Motors is showing off at the Guangzhou Auto Show in China was the Chevrolet Sail EV Concept. While its underpinnings are essentially that of the production-spec Chevy Sail, the outer shell bears no recognition to the frugal subcompact, and perhaps more importantly — neither does the drivetrain.
Instead of a conventional engine, the Sail EV Concept features a lithium-ion battery pack that can propel the vehicle all the way up to 130 km/h (80 mph) and as far as 150 km (93 miles) before recharging. It should be noted that GM-SAIC have been working on an electric variant of the Chevrolet Sail that’s set to begin production in 2011. However we’re not sure whether these numbers are what we should expect from the production model. For more… well, you should know where the press release is by now.
