Three Buick Models Among Top 10 Cars With The Most DUIs In 2024

A new study from Insurify reveals the 10 car models with the most DUIs in 2024. We regret to inform you that GM dominates the list. There are three Buick and three Chevy models on the list, but for now, we’ll focus on the models from GM’s Tri-Shield brand.

To clarify, the cars on the list aren’t the ones that get caught the most in drunk driving arrests. They’re the vehicles registered to the highest rate of drivers with a DUI on their driving record. Insurify’s data science team gets data from more than 97 million car insurance rates across all 50 states and the District of Columbia, making for a substantial sample size for this study.

The top two spots are both small Buick crossovers, and they crush the rest of the list with staggering rates of drunk driver ownership. The top spot goes to the Buick Envista. Out of every 1,000 Envista registrations, 72.1 of those drivers have a DUI on their record.

Buick Encore GX Avenir front three quarter angle.

The Buick Encore GX comes in second place, making it the favorite AWD-equipped vehicle for drunk drivers. This one has a rate of 58.7 drivers with a DUI in their past for every 1,000 registrations.

Buick Enclave Avenir driver side profile.

A more family-friendly crossover takes the seventh-place spot on the list: the 3-row Buick Enclave. Dwarfed by its smaller stablemates, it only has 22.8 drivers with DUIs for every 1,000 registrations.

When you see these three models on the road, they are three of the top 10 vehicles most likely to be driven by someone with a DUI on their record. Stereotypes might have you assuming performance cars like the Chevy Corvette or V-Series Cadillac models would have the most irresponsible drivers, but people with shady driving records apparently prefer the quiet comfort of a modest Buick.

One possible reason the list is topped by affordable Buick models is that drivers with DUIs pay more for car insurance. Since the Envista and Encore GX both have reasonable price tags, fuel costs, and insurance costs, they can help take the sting out of the higher insurance rates that drivers with DUIs have to pay.

For what it’s worth, a 2023 study showed that Buick connects with women more than any other car brand in the U.S. The analysts here at GM Authority have studied these data points to scientifically conclude that Buick is the preferred brand of wine moms. We’re kidding, of course.

  7. I’ve owned 8 Buicks in my 30 plus years of driving. Never had a DUI (or drove buzzed let alone drunk). Guess that means I get a ⭐ on my report card! (Now explain why I pay $200 a month insurance for a 14 years old Mercedes and a 16 year old VW…)(but Trumpy, Prance, err… Vance, and their evil minion, Musky gonna fix that, huh?!)

  12. Data is data. It would be interesting to see the DUI rate for every make of vehicle. That would put all of this in perspective.
