A new study from Insurify reveals the 10 car models with the most DUIs in 2024. We regret to inform you that GM dominates the list. There are three Buick and three Chevy models on the list, but for now, we’ll focus on the models from GM’s Tri-Shield brand.
To clarify, the cars on the list aren’t the ones that get caught the most in drunk driving arrests. They’re the vehicles registered to the highest rate of drivers with a DUI on their driving record. Insurify’s data science team gets data from more than 97 million car insurance rates across all 50 states and the District of Columbia, making for a substantial sample size for this study.
The top two spots are both small Buick crossovers, and they crush the rest of the list with staggering rates of drunk driver ownership. The top spot goes to the Buick Envista. Out of every 1,000 Envista registrations, 72.1 of those drivers have a DUI on their record.
The Buick Encore GX comes in second place, making it the favorite AWD-equipped vehicle for drunk drivers. This one has a rate of 58.7 drivers with a DUI in their past for every 1,000 registrations.
A more family-friendly crossover takes the seventh-place spot on the list: the 3-row Buick Enclave. Dwarfed by its smaller stablemates, it only has 22.8 drivers with DUIs for every 1,000 registrations.
When you see these three models on the road, they are three of the top 10 vehicles most likely to be driven by someone with a DUI on their record. Stereotypes might have you assuming performance cars like the Chevy Corvette or V-Series Cadillac models would have the most irresponsible drivers, but people with shady driving records apparently prefer the quiet comfort of a modest Buick.
One possible reason the list is topped by affordable Buick models is that drivers with DUIs pay more for car insurance. Since the Envista and Encore GX both have reasonable price tags, fuel costs, and insurance costs, they can help take the sting out of the higher insurance rates that drivers with DUIs have to pay.
For what it’s worth, a 2023 study showed that Buick connects with women more than any other car brand in the U.S. The analysts here at GM Authority have studied these data points to scientifically conclude that Buick is the preferred brand of wine moms. We’re kidding, of course.

Insurify is one of those totally annoying sites that keeps hounding me with spam emails. I mean like hourly. Don’t believe a word of it.
Wine moms be out there wildin.
Alternate headline:
Owning Buicks will Drive You to Drinking
Well, ahhhh, ok, hmmmm.
That’s some interesting stats.
Authority will get pushback from the snowflake drug-enabling left .
Seems to me the snowflake left accepted their loss, it is the proven snowflake right that list and wined so much they created a big lie and even tried to destroy Americas demicracy with an insurection incited by the big lie. Think the snowflake Cons needs to man up like Hilary and Kamala and the Dens” bet they turn over power peacefully on Jan 6
Interesting that someone thought to look into that. I would have never thought about that.
I’ve owned 8 Buicks in my 30 plus years of driving. Never had a DUI (or drove buzzed let alone drunk). Guess that means I get a ⭐ on my report card! (Now explain why I pay $200 a month insurance for a 14 years old Mercedes and a 16 year old VW…)(but Trumpy, Prance, err… Vance, and their evil minion, Musky gonna fix that, huh?!)
Most useless article that I have seen on GM Authority.
Now wait til they do the same story but about Chevrolets.
Totally meaningless data
I remember the days my father used to drink and drive and he always sat the beer can on the dashboard ! Well this was the 1970’s ! Fast forward now everyone has to be .08 or under !
Upper middle class America can afford a Buick AND a beer. What a deal!!
Data is data. It would be interesting to see the DUI rate for every make of vehicle. That would put all of this in perspective.
