Kyle Larson To Attempt 2025 Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600 On Same Day Again

Kyle Larson did everything he could to race 1,100 miles on May 26th, 2024, but the weather had other ideas. His attempt at running the Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600 that day was thwarted by rain at both racetracks, which delayed the Indy 500 and cut the Coca-Cola 600 short before he could turn a single lap in NASCAR. Not one to back down from a challenge, Larson has announced that he’ll take on both races again in 2025, and hopefully, this time he’ll be able to complete both of them.

According to a report from Jayski, Larson dropped the news at Charlotte Motor Speedway last week. The 2025 Indy 500 and Coca Cola 600 are scheduled for May 25th next year. He lamented that he didn’t get to complete “The Double” and hopes that he can find redemption next season.

“I wanted to do the double I didn’t get to do,” Kyle Larson said. “Really, everybody involved wanted to see it happen as well. Glad we get to run through it again.”

Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports, which fields the No. 5 Chevy Camaro ZL1 for Larson in the Cup Series, gave his driver his blessing.

“Kyle had a great month of May and showed what a gifted race car driver he is. From a sponsorship perspective, we saw an incredible lift for HendrickCars.com and measured a three-to-one return on our investment,” Hendrick said. “It was a monumental effort by all involved, but we didn’t have the opportunity to see it through (because of inclement weather). Everyone learned a great deal that we’ll take into next year. Now that we’ve experienced it once, we know what to expect, which can only make us better and more prepared. Zak and the team at Arrow McLaren are tremendous partners, and we’re looking forward to finishing the job together in 2025.”

However, there’s a catch. When asked what he would do if inclement weather delays the Indy 500 again next year, Hendrick said that he isn’t giving Larson an option when it comes to prioritizing one race over the other. Simply put, Kyle Larson doesn’t have a choice, and even if he’s leading the Indy 500, he must leave that event early to make the Coca-Cola 600 on time.

“We’re going to be here,” Hendrick said, referencing Charlotte Motor Speedway.
