National inventory for the Chevy Equinox crossover was running at 13 days supply as of the beginning of October, GM Authority has learned from sources familiar with GM’s inventory situation. There are nearly 10,000 units of the model in transit.
Supply of the compact crossover was at 15 days supply in early September, and nearly non-existent a year ago in October 2021. A 60-day supply was considered optimal in the U.S. auto industry prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and the global supply shortage crisis.
Production of the Chevy Equinox at the GM Ramos Arizpe plant in Mexico was down for a month last year during the October-November 2021 timeframe. Production of the nameplate was delayed for a couple of weeks as well at the GM CAMI plant in Ingersoll, Ontario, and at the San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico. These plant shutdowns were related to the ongoing global semiconductor microchip shortage. Earlier this year in April, production of the Equinox concluded at the CAMI plant to begin retooling and preparation for production of its BrightDrop Zevo 400 and Zevo 600 electric delivery vans. The last Canadian-built Equinox rolled off the assembly line at CAMI on Thursday, April 28th, 2022, although the compact crossover continues to be produced at the San Luis Potosí and Ramos Arizpe plants in Mexico.
In terms of sales, the Chevy Equinox sold 163,324 units during the first three quarters of the year, up eight percent to place third with a 10 percent share in the mainstream compact crossover segment when ranked by sales volume. The Toyota RAV4 remained at the top with 303,341 units sold through Q3 2022, with a three percent dip in sales, while the Honda CR-V took second place with a 38 percent drop to 178,687 units.

The 2022 Chevy Equinox received a mid-cycle refresh for the fifth model year of the third-generation compact crossover, which includes a long list of changes and updates such as styling enhancements, new paint colors, and the arrival of the sporty RS trim level. Also, for 2022, the base L trim level was dropped, with the LS now being the entry-level trim, and the RS now added above the LT. The Premier continues to be the top trim level.
The 2023 Chevy Equinox ushers in a few noteworthy updates and changes, one of the biggest of which is a new engine, with the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LSD gasoline engine replacing the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LYX. The new powerplant is rated at 175 horsepower 203 pound-feet of torque, up five horsepower over the previous turbo four-cylinder. Also, the 2023 Equinox gets a new e-boost braking system. The Sport Edition and Midnight Edition packages return for the 2023 model year.
Pricing for the 2023 Chevy Equinox starts at $27,995 for the entry-level LS with front-wheel drive, including the mandatory destination freight charge of $1,395. At the top of the list is the Premier with all-wheel drive, which starts at $34,795. All four trim levels are equipped with front-wheel drive as standard, while all-wheel drive is optional for an extra $1,600. Under the skin, the 2023 Equinox rides on the GM D2 platform.
Production of the 2023 Chevy Equinox began on August 22nd, 2022.
While the current, internal-combustion-engined Equinox will continue being offered well into the future, including a next-gen model, GM CEO Mary Barra recently debuted the first-ever 2024 Chevy Equinox EV last month on CBS Mornings after the automaker initially teased the all-electric compact crossover earlier this year. The 2024 Chevy Equinox EV will feature as standard a single Ultium Drive electric motor powering the front wheels, rated at 210 horsepower and 242 pound-feet of torque. An optional dual-motor eAWD setup will also be offered, rated at 290 horsepower and 346 pound-feet of torque.
Launch trim levels will include the 1LT, 2LT and 3LT, along with the sporty 2RS and 3RS.
