The 2022 Chevy Equinox arrives with a mid-cycle enhancement (MCE, otherwise known as a refresh of facelift) for the compact crossover, introducing a bevy of changes and updates over the preceding 2021 model year. Now, we’re taking a closer look at the 2022 Chevy Equinox thanks to the following brief walkaround video.
Clocking in at a little under four minutes long, this walkaround video goes over a variety of features and highlights for the 2022 Chevy Equinox, starting with the exterior styling, which gets a revamp thanks to a new front fascia that includes sharper lighting elements, with a thin upper lighting signature and narrow lower headlight housing.
The central intake is now squarer than before, and is offered with three new grille designs, while lower lighting elements bookend the extended lower intake section. The taillights were also redesigned. LED lighting is used front to back. In the corners, customers have three new wheel options to choose from.
Available trim levels include LS, LT, RS, and Premier, with the RS serving as the sportier option of the bunch, and the Premier serving as the range-topper. The video goes over some of the styling bits unique to the RS, which includes Black badging and emblems, black trim, and standard 19-inch Dark Android painted aluminum wheels. The interior features black upholstery offset by red stitching.
The video also details the 2022 Chevy Equinox Premier, which features 18-inch Machined-Face Aluminum wheels, fog lamps, and bright trim accents for the exterior, as well as leather-appointed heated front seats with driver memory.
Cargo capacity is rated at 63.9 cubic feet with the second row folded flat. Alternatively, customers can configure the rear bench seat as needed with a 60/40 split.
The 2022 Chevy Equinox is equipped exclusively with the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LYX gasoline engine, rated at 170 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 203 pound-feet of torque at 2,000 rpm. A six-speed automatic transmission handles the transmission duties, while both FWD and AWD are on hand to put the power to the pavement.

Six speed transmission….
91fairladyz: I’m assuming you are kind of saying you don’t like the 6 speed? I’ve owned several GM’s with the 6 speed and found it to be an excellent trans. I’ve owned one GM with the 8 speed and didn’t like it. I’ve driven several GM’s with the 9 speed and absolutely hated it. I would take the 6 speed any day of the week and nobody has ever been able to show me why we need anything more than the 6 speeds. They give rehearsed verbiage taken from what seems to be from something they have read, but I still have not gotten one person who can give real world example where the higher gears really matter.
I have a 2018 Equinox 1.5 LTR 6 speed AWD and it’s the best transmission since my 2008 Saturn Vue had it.
And my Equinox hit 51.6 mpg for a straight 50 miles and 46.1 straight for 250 miles. I now have almost 60k miles on the clock and it keeps on ticking trouble free better than the Eveready Battery Rabbit!
Don’t walk, RUN!
We have a 2019 Chevy Equinox with the 2.0 turbo engine, it has no problems at all, got 43000 miles, really good gas mileage,
“Equinox is the perfect blend of design, performance…”
Design? Perfect? The interior is light years behind other “SUV’s” in its class. Miles of cheap plastic and a standard 7″ screen surrounded by, yep, you guessed it, a cheap plastic frame. The 7″ screen is even in the RS which is supposed to be one of their top trims below only the Premier. I laughed when they only showed a picture of the leather seats instead of the dash.
Performance? Perfect? This part made me spill my drink through my nose…does the presenter know what is actually under the hood? A weak 1.5L Turbo and an outdated 6 speed tranny. This thing can’t get out of its own way. Perfect blend of performance, my rear end.
If you insist on getting an underpowered crossover from GM that is in this size range, at least look at the Terrain. They put a 9 speed in that one. Or, for the price of the RS appearance package, go get a Blazer that at least has the V6 or the 2.0L Turbo. The Equinox should be a fleet vehicle for the government and rental companies.
Tim: I work at a Mazda store. I’m in the CX5 all the time. I’ll take this Equinox over the CX5 any day. Engine and all. Sounds to me like you work with Toyota and you are attempting to draw away from their terrible interiors by saying this car is filled with cheap plastics. I’m in many different brands all the time. From real world experience, here is the list of the worst 5 brands for interiors:
1. Toyota
2. Honda
3. Ford
4. Nissan
5. Subaru
Richard looks like he desperately wanted to be in one of the Twilight movies. How far the Mighty “GM” has fallen from glory on the path to become neutered “gm”!
Equinox definitely needs the 2.0 l engine with the nine speed transmission it would be so much better the 1.5 to small for that vehicle in my opinion but I do like the R S TRIM cool looking they do say not enough 2.0 l engine to go around so they use them in the Cadillac XT4 and the Buick Envision even the GMC Terrain no longer comes with the 2.0 l engine only option 1.5 in the Denali trim also but still gets the nine speed transmission. Hopefully the 2.0 l will come back for the equinox and the terrain but it’s highly unlikely it will as my local GM tells me
I am thinking very hard right now….is there any vehicle in the Segment that has a cheaper Plasticky interior than the Nox?
Momolos: Let me help you with that one because it’s so easy. Rav4. CRV. Want more?
All of GM crossovers have very cheap flimsy plasticky interiors, and this refresh Equinox is no different. They really need to take some cues from Mazda on how to build high quality attractive interiors for non luxury car prices.
Is it me or does the Chevy bowtie look too high on the front grill? I noticed this on the 2022 Silverado as well. It’s like the front grill proportions looks off as if the Bowtie has its nose flicked up like a pig nose, it’s freaking ugly as hell. That drivetrain is so pathetic, it’s like GM doesn’t care about performance or it’s gas engines anymore as they’re so overly focused on EV’s.
Haha. For those on here who love to bring up how great the Mazda CX5 is? Engine (standard) is a 2.5L non-turbo with about 185hp and 186 torque. Standard and only trans is the 6 speed. Interiors look good up front, but don’t seem to hold up well over time.
Equinox: 1.5L Turbo engine with 170 HP and 203 torque. Also a 6 speed. So for those who wish to bash GM and the Equinox for a lame engine and trans, yet praise the Mazda? Yup, got it.
hands down, overall,, Equinox wins! And how much more rubber burning power does the Equinox need? I’ve soun all four tires taking off on AWD and too easily on on FWD with dry blacktop. The quick take-off torque in mine is more than 203 and I welcome my overall Adirondack area hilly driving averaging 29-39 mpg. It’s a big car and carries an under trunk and behind rear seats full load, rear seat parked wheel chair weighting at least 250-300 lbs all the time during the past 26k miles, now approaching 60k trouble free miles and all inspected, ready for Winter and worth $5k more than I paid for it used! And it’s an all electric accessoried Premier model with Cadillac comfort seating and good back support with more backseat room than a Cadillac CTS/ATS etc.
One caveat: could use driving/fog lamps and better projection beam lighting for nights and snow driving.
