Refreshed 2022 Silverado, 2022 Sierra Configurator: What We Know

The fully refreshed 2022 Silverado 1500 and 2022 Sierra 1500 debut a long list of upgrades and changes over the preceding 2021-model-year vehicles and pre-fresh 2022 Limited models. However, the online configurator for both models has yet to drop, leading many to question what’s going on. As such, we’re laying out everything we know thus far.

First, let’s briefly recap. General Motors unveiled the refreshed 2022 Silverado in September of 2021 and the refreshed 2022 Sierra that following October. Then, in November, GM Authority published GM’s internal launch timeframe for the updated 2022 Silverado, indicating that the online configurator was expected to go live without pricing info on December 15th, and with pricing info on January 5th, adding that the dates were subject to change, especially when considering the massive supply chain disruptions resulting from the ongoing global microchip shortage.

Obviously, those dates have come and gone without the updated 2022 Silverado and 2022 Sierra online configurators going live. So where are we now?

Well, General Motors is clearly behind schedule, presenting us with a relatively strange scenario. As it stands, dealers can currently place orders for the refreshed 2022 Silverado 1500 and 2022 Sierra 1500 trucks, and in fact have been doing so since the first order cycle went into effect December 16th of 2021. However, customers can’t configure the vehicles in question. This is indeed odd, and we can’t think of any recent GM vehicle launch where this has taken place.

In any event, GM Authority sources now tell us that the updated 2022 Silverado and 2022 Sierra online configurators should go live any day now, with one source close to the automaker telling us that the configurators will be online by mid next week. Again, we repeat that the timeline is fluid and subject to change.

In the meantime, you can check out photos of every refreshed 2022 Silverado trim level thanks to exclusive GM Authority coverage.

To note, the the refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 and 2022 GMC Sierra are offered with four engine options, including the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine with more torque than ever before the atmospheric 5.3L V8 L84 and atmospheric 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engines, and the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax.

Both trucks ride atop the GM T1 platform, with production scheduled to start February 7th at the GM Silao Plant in Mexico, and March 7th the GM Fort Wayne Assembly facility in Indiana. The GM Oshawa Plant in Canada will also produce the new Silverado, but not the Sierra.

As first reported by GM Authority, pricing for the refreshed 2022 Silverado starts at $33,195, including destination and freight charges. Meanwhile, the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra starts at $32,495.

  • Coincidentally, my dealer called me today asking if I was ready to place my order. He of course had no pricing information other than what’s been reported here.

I actually sent him my tentative build but will now have him hold off another week until the configurator goes live.

    • If you order now, you can see pricing. I order my dealer's vehicles and you can see pricing as of this week

      • Can you share the pricing sheet you have? My dealer doesnt seem to have it/doesnt know they have it/doesnt want to share it.

        Its not great

  • Considering that the 2023 Colorado will have a 2.7 L3B engine, the Silverado, a full-size truck, will likely have at least a 3.6 V6 LF4 engine.

    • New engines in 2025 when the next generation rolls out. Nothing until then, and the LN4 won't be on the list, an updated version maybe. Some are saying a Gen 6 small block V8 will still be in it, hybrid is very likely and a mistake that GM avoided hybrid development for this generation.

  • My dealer called me 2 days ago to inform me he can now order my Sierra. However, he said there will be a 4 month waiting period for delivery. That would put us close to June may later. Also, the color I would want is no longer available, so i thought I'd be interested in the new Tungsten Rush Metallic. However not having seen the color on a truck makes me want to wait until I can see one so as not to make a $70k mistake. I gave that some thought and decided to wait until 2023 production and canceled my reservation.

    • FYI i ordered a sierra AT4 2022 limited August 15th and the build has yet to start.....I doubt the refreshed 2022 will even hit dealerships until Q4 of 2022. Order was accepted in early november

  • Just FYI - Costco auto website has a build and price for the 2022 refreshed Silverado and Sierra. It includes the AT4X and the ZR2. Not sure how accurate it is though.

    • I just went through and tried Costco. No idea how accurate the numbers are. They have SuperCruise as a $2,000 add on option. I read somewhere that it might be an $8,000 add on option.

Guess we wont know till they launch, but its a great tool to keep in mind

      • The Costco pricing is the same that our local (Chevy) dealer gave me on a new ZR2 so I'm assuming it's accurate. There are a few options (gloss black wheels) that there is no pricing available for yet.

        • This is EXACTLY why I waited before placing my order. A different post had a comment that super cruise was 8k. I would have placed my order without it for that price.

For 2k? Better believe its going to be on the build sheet now!

    • I did the Costco build and price as well...Only thing i questioned is with the LT TrailBoss... The 6.2L engine is now a $3890 option instead of $2495... The RST and LTZ have the 6.2 at $2495 option...Not sure if its a glitch or if they really added that much to the 6.2 in the Trail Boss

      • Probably just charging that much. Most TB and AT4 buyers just think its cool and have no use for it so they will pay for the image. So might as well charge those dummies more. Sucks for those that use and need it having to pay more. Seeing the AT4X and ZR2 as box checker versions only is kind of sad, just going to be bought up by suburban dads to sit in school lines, would be nice to add the goodies to lower trim trucks so they might have a chance of being used by people the need those capabilities (that is a decimal of a percent of people that have any use for a front locker in a pick up).

        • While I do agree with you 100%... I think that would be more geared toward the ZR2 more than the trail boss...

The Trail boss is nothing special other than a 2" "lift" on a regular LT model. I give GM credit to make it as it fills a niche of a large majority of truck buyers... A huge portion of truck buyers put some kind of leveling kit on their trucks to achieve a "truck" look, like they used to have in the past , so by GM doing this from the factory they can take some of the market share from the aftermarket and just have it done from the factory..

The ZR2 on the other hand, I believe GM is catering toward the true off roaders with the capability it has.. BUT I really think only a small percentage of people will actually use it for that purpose.. Some of my friends are true off roaders and they have older Jeeps and trucks modified specifically for off roading that are more capable than the ZR2 will ever be, at a fraction of the cost.. So you are correct that 90% of the buyers will be suburban dads dropping kids off at school and never take it off road, but to each their own ,as buying a vehicle is as much about appeal as it is to functionality...

100% agree about adding certain goodies to the lower trim trucks, not everyone wants a luxury truck, just to get certain options .. I wish they would add the ZR2 interior color to other trim levels as well.. Im so sick of black interiors already...Up until the K2 arrived in 2014 there was a choice of black, grey or tan...now..its Black....or Brown.....Great..Thanks GM

        • wow what an attitude..what the hell do you care who buys what?let me guess you beat your wife when suppers late..wtf

  • I placed my order for a Cayenne Red '22 AT4 1500 in on January 8, 2022 showing MSRP on order sheet. Dealership said that was the first day they had seen actual pricing for the refresh models.

  • So I can't remember how discounts and incentives work. If you order a truck in January, and take delivery in June, and incentives are better in June, are you eligible for those?

    • Correct. Incentives are applied at time of delivery.

Which also means if there is a great incentive now, that will not apply when you take delivery in June (unless of course you get the dealer to put it in writing on your order)

      • Thanks. Yea I would be [trying to] getting that in writing. Sucks to special order a vehicle and possibly get shafted thousands of dollars, the dealer/manufacturer basically didn't have to sell you vs the competition, you go in knowing the product you want and that truck is a guarantee sale, no sitting on the lot

        • Starting last year. You can lock in today's rebates at time of order. If they improve at time of delivery you get the better rebates.

      • I'm not paying $65,000 for a truck that used to have $10,000 incentive during "truck month". I'd rather continue driving my 2012 to 300,000km and put MAYBE $3,000 into it including another set of tires

        • youre not wrong, but those days are not coming back any time soon.

Maybe youll see some discounts mid 2023, but I would suspect 2024 at the earliest is when some significant discounts will be offered (assuming weve bounced back from the chip shortage)

          • Honestly, I dont think those days will ever be back...With customers purchasing at MSRP, and above while keeping inventories low, means more profits for the manufacturer, and in a sense the dealer, while the dealer is not turning over more vehicles to make money, the transaction prices are higher and they dont have to sit on inventory and discount them to sell... IF they can satisfy demand without being over inventoried, they dont need to lay out huge incentives, as customers have shown they will pay....This has been stated by just about every manufacturer.

I highly doubt even after the chip shortage is resolved that we will go back to dealers having 150 trucks on the lot...but I could be wrong.

          • Jeff, I think you're 100% correct. If i was a business owner selling widgets, and I could sell less units while making the same total profit, it's a no brainer... I dont think being "sales king" matters to manufacturers as much as a healthy bottom line.

          • Yep exactly.. I work in manufacturing and I see it daily... If we make less of our product at a higher profit margin, its a win.. That means less inventory we need to keep at the plant, less wear on our machinery , Less OT by the workers, and a higher Quality since employees are not pushed to the limits trying to push out a ridiculous amount of product daily and missing issues...

          • I believe those days will be back in big cities where competition is strong. We have several volume dealers in DFW that thrive on stock and discounts to pull people in. It'll be a few years before things are back to normal though.

  • With the amount of delays and delivery timing, at what point do they start calling these the 23 Sierra and Silverado?

  • My sales guy sends me weekly emails ads of the dealers new inventory on the lot, new inventory in enroute, used, and incentives. As I check the new inventory I see a lot trucks on each level including the the enroute. I filter by engine, 6.2, and the dealer has some on the lot and enroute. He asked if he should reserve one.... lol He says he gets a truck load about every week and they are sold once they get off the truck...

  • At this point I expect the refreshed Silverados will probably be showing up on Copart before GM has the build site up.
