General Motors Files To Trademark Escalade IQ

General Motors has filed to trademark Escalade IQ, GM Authority has learned, further hinting at an upcoming fully electric variant of the full-size Cadillac Escalade SUV after another filing for Escalade IQL appeared earlier this week.

Filed on November 18^th, 2021 with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the application is assigned serial number 97132988. Under the Goods and Services category, the application lists a use case of “Motor land vehicles, namely, automobiles.”

As we reported previously, the future electric Cadillac Escalade is expected to use GM’s BT1 platform that also underpins the GMC Hummer EV pickup and GMC Hummer EV SUV as well as the upcoming Chevy Silverado E pickup, which is scheduled to debut at 2022 Consumer Electronics Show in January.

The electric Escalade will also use an Ultium battery pack allowing for an estimated range of 400 miles, as well as Ultium drive motors. This eco-friendly variant of the immensely popular utility vehicle is expected to arrive by mid-decade.

Escalade IQ should be the name of the regular-wheelbase variant of the electric SUV, while Escalade IQL likely indicates the long-wheelbase version, hence the L in IQL. The latter could also indicate a long-range model with a larger battery pack.

A bunch of other trademark filings have been recorded this week as well, one or more of which will be used for other future all-electric Cadillac models:

• Acsendiq
• Escalade IQL
• Lumistiq
• Vistiq

The model scheduled to introduce the brand’s new naming strategy is the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq, of which production will start in the first quarter of 2022. The Cadillac Celestiq flagship sedan, which should be revealed in early 2022, will follow later on. Of note, the Optiq and Symboliq trademarks filed last year seem to have been dropped by GM.
