GM Files To Trademark Zora In Mexico

Although the Corvette ZR1 is currently expected to be officially unveiled later this year, GM Authority expert photographers managed to nab live pictures of the upcoming Corvette Zora testing alongside a Ferrari SF90 Stradale. That being said, it appears as though General Motors is slowly creeping towards the C8 Zora‘s reveal, as new filings reveal that the Detroit-based automaker applied to trademark the Zora nameplate in Mexico.

Filed on June 3rd, 2024 with IMPI – or Instituto Mexicano de la Propiedad Industrial – the trademark is assigned serial number 0119853169269. This Mexican mark indicates that the filing will be used for “vehículos de motor y sus partes estructurales,” or motor vehicles and their structural parts.

As a reminder, the Corvette Zora is named after the man who made America’s sports car what it is today, Zora Arkus-Duntov. To this end, the Corvette C8 Zora will be the first Vette to bear such a nameplate and will be positioned at the top of the Corvette totem pole.

The powertrain will likely be one of the biggest draws for this high-performance model, as it’s currently expected to combine the twin-turbocharged 5.5L V8 LT7 gasoline engine from the C8 ZR1 with a hybrid setup similar to the one found in the Corvette E-Ray. All said, it’s possible that this fusion could push output north of the 1,000 horsepower mark, making this far and above the most powerful production-spec Corvette ever built. An upgraded variant of the GM eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission will likely continue to handle the shifting duties.

With so much performance on tap, it would likely surprise no one if the Corvette Zora ended up being the fastest production Vette ever. Look for a 0-to-60 mph sprint in the sub-two-second range, along with a top speed well beyond 200 mph.

In regard to structure, it will continue to ride on the GM Y2 platform, the same architecture that underpins all Corvette C8 models. Production will take place exclusively at the GM Bowling Green plant in Kentucky.
