The folks at WD Detailing are back at it with another car detailing restoration video, this time featuring an abandoned C5 Corvette that’s absolutely disgusting.
In this video, the hosts find a C5 Corvette that was abandoned in a yard for 11 years, slowly becoming one with nature and in a pretty sad state. Not only that, but the car’s interior is among the moldiest that WD Detailing has ever encountered, with an ant colony and other nastiness stuffed into every corner.
Nevertheless, WD Detailing dives right in, rolling up their sleeves to clean out all the gunk. Later, the Vette’s mechanical condition is evaluated by Cleveland Power and Performance to see if it’s worth the expense to get it back on the road.
The team starts by vacuuming, steaming, and using various cleaning products to tackle the mold, dirt, and insect infestation. As for the exterior, the team uses specialized cleaning agents to remove the layers of dirt and grime that have accumulated over the years. The team also highlights the 5.7L V8 LS1 engine and discuss a little bit of the car’s history.
Watching the gross stuff melt away in the time lapse clips is highly satisfying, and definitely worth the click to watch all on their own.
However, after getting the Vette over to Cleveland Power and Performance, the prognosis isn’t good. Initial estimates put costs at about $12,000 to make the Corvette functional again. As such, the team ultimately decides that the cost of restoration outweighs the potential benefits, and they pass on purchasing the car, opting to return it to the owner instead. Hopefully the owner can figure out the best way to get it driving again.
Nevertheless, the video is totally worth a watch for folks that love the C5 Corvette. Check it out right here:

Can’t wait until they turn the HVAC Fan on….
Mold spores anyone??
I don’t get it…these two guys pull a POS C5 out of a filthy insect infected small jungle, which the owner gave them permission to drag out of there, and without “keys” or the ability to run any electrical to the car, pull this disgusted POS into their facility to attempt to clean this thing up after years of being left to slowly self destruct and without any real prior knowledge about the C5 generation in total (okay one of them knew a little about the C5 in general) it just baffels the imagination why they are attempting to clean this mess up and possibly buying it thinking that they could maybe sell it (sic) and make some kind of a profit by doing so. Obviously these two “detailers”, while very capable “detailers” are in over their collective heads, and while after cleaning it up the best they could (a lot of hard work went into this…but to me the results were sadly lackluster) actually brought this C5 to a shop that specalizes in high end mechanical stuff, while the two guys who own the shop were giving such wild and expensive estimates (really, 16 grand…are you freaking serious!) to get this POS running and then, OMG they could easily attach another 10 or 20 grand or more if the engine and tranny needed to overhauled knowing full well that no one in their right mind would allow that shop to touch that car at those prices!
As the owner of a pristeen low mileage 2001 C5 Coupe with some fun Z06 additional mods, I can’t help but understand their like of the C5 Corvette in general (I love mine, such a great GT car) but I think the owner of that black ‘Vette got the beter of the deal by keeping that car so he can “throw it away again back into his filthy insect infected snake pit” but this time all cleaned up! WTF….I realize that this is simply a show, and a good one…I do enjoy seeing some of these vehicles cleaned up as some of these certainly deserve it, but this time…I dunno. It just didn’t make any sense to take this particular Corvette that the owner could care less about and clean it up, otherwise why whould he have simply left it outside to rot and in the worst possible location, not even covered up for gosh sakes! Oh well, I know, it’s just entertainment so don’t read too much into what these guys do for an obviously pretty decent living. It’s just sad to see any Corvette simply left out in the weather like that for years and years and then…have it cleaned up (well, kind of cleaned up, the interior came out pretty decent, but through lots of hard work!) my guess is that this particular C5 ‘Vette either had a blown engine or tranny, plus who knows what other crazy things couldhave kept this car from being started up and driven after the detail work was finished . To me, a total waste of labor and materials, but it was enteraining and I’m sure they made money on this episode anyway as they claim a lot of followers, so more power to those two detailers, keep up the good work, maybe some day you’ll find the exact good deal you’re looking for.
