As such, GM outsold Stellantis by 46,810 units in the segment during the quarter, marking the eighth time that The General sold more than Stellantis in this space since the introduction of the second-generation Jeep Compass, which has become a popular entry in the segment. Stellantis held a combined 10 percent segment share.

However, the Kia Soul could be considered to be part of the smaller A-segment. Removing the Soul from the Hyundai and Kia sales totals leaves the Korean duo with 60,557 units, or 16,148 units less than GM.
The mainstream subcompact crossover segment expanded nearly 55 percent to 308,490 units during Q2 2021, meaning the Chevy Trax significantly underperformed the segment average.
The 19 percent decline in Chevy Trax sales during the second quarter of 2021 is not unexpected, since it’s now facing internal competition from the all-new Chevy Trailblazer. However, despite the 19 percent sales slide, the Trax still managed to maintain a decent position in the segment, outselling over half of the segment contenders.
Previously, the Trax managed to post a 3 percent growth rate during Q2 2020, defying the COVID-19 pandemic to become the only model in the segment to post a sales uptick. We suspected that the Q2 increase was the result of favorable supply of the model at the retail level when compared to other models.
It’s also worth noting that GM is dedicating more space at the GM Bupeyong plant in South Korea to produce the Trailblazer instead of the Trax, so an uptick in Trailblazer sales at the expense of Trax sales is expected. Meanwhile, the GM San Luis Potosi plant in Mexico no longer produces the Trax.
Other items of note include that the Trax and Trailblazer transact at notably different prices, with the former significantly more affordable than the latter. And, as GM Authority reported recently, the Trax and Trailblazer both have the youngest buyers in the segment. As such the Trax can continue to serve as a more cost-effective alternative to young buyers.

Wow. Holding on to it's position! I can see it now. A big cheer, "We're Number 8!!"
Can't say I'm really surprised. The Trailblazer is a tad bigger, gets better gas mileage, and, in my opinion, better options. There are better options than what GM has to offer in their lineup. I have been eyeing what Ford and Kia have been doing and I'm strongly leaning towards trading for one of them despite me owning nothing but Chevys.

Kia is doing everything right with design, quality and price. Then again, I enjoyed the handling of my rental 500X so have zero taste.
