The GM Authority Take

The performance of Chevrolet Korea sales during April 2021 represent the second consecutive month of declines for the Bow Tie brand in the Asian country, following the 31 percent drop in March. The negative behavior is primarily the result of logistical difficulties presented by the COVID-19 pandemic and the prolonged shortage of semiconductors, which has significantly hampered production across the automotive industry.

In April, eight of the 11 vehicles offered by Chevrolet in South Korea were in the red. In fact, most posted double-digit drops, with the exception of the Camaro. The performance of the Chevrolet Spark had the biggest impact on the brand’s sales total for the month. In fact, the 21 percent drop in Spark sales during April as well as during the first four months of the 2021 calendar year saw the vehicle lose its status as Chevy’s most popular model for the second consecutive month.

Meanwhile, the new Chevrolet Trailblazer saw a 15 percent growth rate, becoming the brand’s best-selling model in Korea. The subcompact crossover saw 2,020 deliveries thanks to strong interest in the recently-launched 2022 Trailblazer. Additionally, the Traverse and Damas also posted very healthy double-digit increases, continuing their pivotal role for GM Korea domestic sales.
