Cadillac XT5 Won’t Get Super Cruise In America, Ever

Making its introduction for the 2017 model year, the Cadillac XT5 is offered as the luxury marque’s five-door midsize crossover utility vehicle, with the latest 2023 Cadillac XT5 arriving as the seventh model year of the first generation. Notably, the Cadillac XT5 will not offer the GM Super Cruise system in America – ever. In fact, the Cadillac XT5 will be the only nameplate under the Cadillac umbrella that won’t offer Super Cruise since the technology’s introduction.

Cadillac Escalade with GM Super Cruise active

For those readers who may be unaware, GM Super Cruise is a driver assistance feature that allows the driver to remove their hands from the steering wheel while driving on select stretches of highway. Classified as a Level 2 semi-autonomous system, Super Cruise handles the steering, braking, and throttle to keep the vehicle in its lane and traveling down the road. To do this, Super Cruise leverages a range of sensors, including visual cameras, LiDAR mapping, GPS information, and radar.

First offered with the Cadillac CT6 sedan, the GM Super Cruise system has since expanded across Cadillac’s lineup, including the current-generation Cadillac Escalade, Cadillac CT4, and Cadillac CT5. The system was also added to the refreshed 2024 Cadillac XT4 crossover, as well as the 2022 Cadillac XT6, while the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq will gain the feature following an over-the-air update.

However, the Cadillac XT5 never received the feature, and never will in America. Looking ahead, the 2024 Cadillac XT5 will likely be the last model year for the crossover in North America. The 2024 Cadillac XT5 is expected to receive very minor changes compared to the current 2023 model year. Looking ahead, the next-generation Cadillac XT5 is expected to be built and sold exclusively in China.

To note, if the Cadillac XT5 did offer Super Cruise, it likely would have been with very limited road coverage, similar to the Cadillac XT6.

As a reminder, the current Cadillac XT5 offers two engine options, including the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gasoline engine and the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 LGX gasoline engine. Under the skin, the XT5 rides on the GM C1 platform. Production of the 2024 Cadillac XT5 is expected to begin this June at the GM Spring Hill plant in Tennessee.

  • Cadillac is at such an odd place as a brand right now. Some world class products and then some extreme mediocrity. The XT5 is extreme mediocrity.

  • The bottom line. The retooled XT5 is for China only. The XT5 for the Cadillac Drivers in this country is being eliminated. In the minds of GM decision makers, this will free up extra line for the Lyriq in the Tennessee plant. They figure if the XT5 is not available to the XT5 drivers ,that want a new vehicle, they will get a Lyriq because they still want to drive a Cadillac with the same size as a XT5. They can't be more wrong. They will not get an EV and mostly look at other car companies. They are shooting themselves in their bottom line foot. They should reconsider this move and make the Retooled XT5 available in this country and forget putting to much net worth in the Lyriq.

  • GM only cares about other countries, not the US who bailed the out with tax payer dollars.

  • Looking forward to viewing the next-generation XT5, even if it won't be available in the U.S.
