Here’s When 2024 Cadillac XT5 Production Will Start

The North American market will not be getting the next-generation Cadillac XT5, as the luxury crossover will be offered in China only. However, the current generation of the XT5 will soldier on for the U.S., and now, GM Authority has exclusively learned when production of the 2024 Cadillac XT5 will begin.

GM Authority has learned that the start of regular production (SORP) of the 2024 Cadillac XT5 is currently scheduled for June 2023.

As a quick reminder, the North American 2024 XT5 will largely be a carryover of the 2023 model, while the Chinese market will eventually get an all-new generation of the crossover.

“This is for China only, as we move Cadillac in the United States to an all-electric brand,” GM President Mark Reuss said in reference to the next-gen Cadillac XT5. “The XT5 is still a very high-volume segment in China, and we’re going to do that with a new design language interpretation, both inside and out.”

Meanwhile, the current 2023 XT5 offered in the U.S. is mostly unchanged from the preceding 2022 model year. For 2023, the luxury crossover received three new paint colors, while the Bose Performance 14-speaker stereo, embedded navigation and ambient lighting became standard on the Premium Luxury and Sport trim levels.

In regards to powertrain specifications, the 2023 XT5 is available with one of two engine options. These powerplants include the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gasoline engine, which produces 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, and the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 LGX gasoline engine, which develops 310 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque. Regardless of engine choice, every XT5 utilizes the GM nine-speed automatic transmission as standard, while drivetrain options include either FWD or AWD.

Under the skin, the XT5 rides on the GM C1 platform, while production takes place at the GM Spring Hill plant in Tennessee.

  1. That’s a lot of BALONEY. Keeping the XT5 WITH NO CHANGES FOR THE AMERICAN BUYERS IS A BIG SHAM ,JUST TO PUSH THE LYRIC on us. While letting the model with the changes going to China. As a Cadillac buyer since 1978,if this move proceeds ,you just lost a customer. See ya.

    1. I agree completely. I have bought or leased 19 new Cadillacs since 1980. I currently have a 2013 CT5 prem Lux and a 2021 XT5 with the Platinum package. It sounds like I can lease one more XT5 and then I’ll have to switch brands. Its hard to believe that Cadillac is walking away from its traditional customers. I hope for their sake its not a fatal mistake. I also hope Mr. Reuss is reading these comments !!

        You have a 2013 CT5 ????

        How’s that possible?

Apart from the fact the CT5 didn’t exist in 2013, you always used to post you’re dislike for it.

        2. A clue,is absent in your grasp. They are going to do away with the XT5 to make way for the EV. Do you realize where both are made ? They want to make room for the Lyric. Check it out and do do research.

  2. Sorry to say but no electric Cadillac for me. Electric cars are not suitable for long trips , winter driving. They are just a Liberal politicians dream.

  3. Absolutely disappointed with Cadillac on this announcement! Why not keep your best selling XT5 updated here in the States? EPA requirements? Dump the XT4 instead, or make a hybrid model available for XT5 to ease us older generation gas lovers into electrification. Anyway, I won’t be purchasing an all electric Cadillac so you’ve lost a customer.

    1. You dump your XT5!!! I happen to like my XT4 Sport over a XT5.. it’s way better looking roomy enough for me,wife, & pooch, and the 2.0T in this is spunky but would be a dog in your XT5…
I’m not buying EV either… They should have all energy choices for vehicles!
Plus the new ones they are forcing 3 or 5 years of ONSTAR in the purchase, not free!! Nobody forces me, NOT Joey and not GM..
Also the US should not be a stepchild while they give China the updated XT5. That’s WRONG!! And they might lose customers because if their stupidness????

  4. That’s insane Keep the Chinese happy and forget about all the American people what a disgrace!!! What are there plans for the XT6 ??? If it’s the same truck with no change I’m not coming back for another one !! Peace out dummies

  5. We’ve been driving an ‘18 XT5 for over 53k miles and just had to replace the front wheel hubs/bearing assemblies due to a growling noise as well as the front tires. Other than that it’s been a great vehicle with the V6 and it gets good mileage on long trips with plenty of power. We won’t be replacing it with any Cadillac if the only choice is electric. Probably drive it till I can’t drive anymore!

  7. The Lyric is priced real nice. Even less for 2023 than the Initial pricing from what I read!. So you may want to to read Heck it out. Of course all may be spoken for already.
Actually I think it is way better looking than the $300,000 Celestique. Saving around $240,000.. That buys a lot of Ekectricity~~ha-ha

    1. Ditto; Been waiting on upgraded XT5…Covid, then more promises pushed. Electric not doing it for me. Looking at other brands now. Held off two years just to get the news China getting upgraded XT5…US maker left out. Cadillac pushing Lyric with none in dealerships to see. Ran into couple at Chicago auto show who informedz..”bought Lyric..first time saw it was at auto show.. ordered in October ..delivery pushed to March…now December 2023! Their car will be old when it finally arrives. “

      2. Caddy wants you to move to the XT4 I guess if you don’t want an electrified vehicle. What a shame…I’m not buying an electric vehicle and will find a hybrid, non Cadillac in the future.

  10. Been a long time Cadillac family having purchased or leased 9 Cadillacs over the years. We currently lease a 2020 XT5 and will be looking for a new car when the lease runs out in Dec. 2023. However, what is happening to the 2024 XT5 is very disappointing. Why can’t we have a hydrid? All electric is just not feasible at this. There are not enough facilities. We travel long distances in our Cadillac and we are afraid of the range in an all electric. Can’t just pull in to a charging station like a gas station. We are looking at other brands.

  11. Looks like to Cadillac & maybe GM>>> it’s ALL IN FoR EV’s, nothing in between(hybrids).
That, I think is a bad decision!!!

  12. Why? Short sighted, looks like my 2018 XT5 will be my last Cadillac. By the way I really enjoy this vehicle and would buy a 2025 for sure.

  14. If the US market was not so enamored with foreign cars, it would be profitable rather than go to China.

  15. I am also upset with Cadillac for discontinuing the XT5 in 2024. I have a 2018 Platinum trim XT5 now, and I may be forced to trade it in on a 2024. Only because it is the last year I will be able to purchase one. I only have 34,000 miles on it, and it is in excellent condition. I love the suv and I am not ready for electric yet. What is Cadillac doing? Many of the people I know do not want an electric vehicle yet. We all might have to resort to buying a different brand. I am 76 years old and all I have ever owned were General Motors vehicles. I am very loyal to buying American vehicles. Please rethink ending the XT5 in 2024.
