GM has released a new service update bulletin regarding an issue with internal transmission components of select Cadillac XT4, Cadillac XT5 and Cadillac XT6 crossovers.
According to Service Update N242446290 published in June 2024, certain 2024 Cadillac XT4, 2024 Cadillac XT5 and 2024 Cadillac XT6 units may have a condition in which the clutch backing plate retaining ring and/or the clutch piston retaining ring inside the transmission are of specification. Vehicles affected with this condition will need a replacement of the clutch piston housing, performed at a GM dealership.
The bulletin points out that it only involves vehicles in dealer inventory, and the repair will be eligible until July 31st, 2025. Involved vehicles are marked “Open” on dealers’ Investigate Vehicle History screen in the GM Global Warranty Management System. This is not a recall, but affected vehicles must be held at the dealer until the fix is completed.
It’s unclear at this time exactly how many units are affected by this mechanical issue. The service update rounds up the following Cadillac models mentioned above, but also the 2024 Buick Encore GX, the 2024 Chevy Traverse, the 2024 Chevy Traverse Limited, the 2024 Chevy Blazer, the 2024 Chevy Trailblazer, the 2024 GMC Acadia and the 2024 GMC Terrain.
As reminder, the 2024 Cadillac XT4 is equipped with the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY engine that develops 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, managed by the GM nine-speed automatic transmission. Meanwhile, both the XT5 and the XT6 are available with either the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY engine or the 3.6L V6 LGX engine producing 208 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. Both powerplants are matched to the nine-speed automatic.
The Cadillac XT4 rides on the GM E2 platform, while assembly takes place at the GM Fairfax plant in Kansas. The Cadillac XT5 and XT6 are supported by the GM C1 platform and are built at the GM Spring Hill plant in Tennessee.

I just bought a 24 xt5 Saturday. Will it need repair
Not all breakdown, but a lot of them do. Good luck.
I have a 2024 XT4 and had to have it towed to dealer with only 988kilometers on it. It had reduced acceleration and I couldn’t put it in reverse! Waiting to hear the final problem but dealer says definitely transmission
Update: over 5 weeks later, my car is still at dealership waiting for 4 parts to come in for the transmission. 😡
GM makes it pretty hard to choose a GM product now a days.
Our new XT5, ordered in January and delivered in April, is back at the dealer after 1200 miles with this specific transmission issue. Parts have been on backorder for 3 weeks and they are telling me it's going to be another 2-3 weeks - they hope. The dealer didn't have any loaners so they got us a Chevy Trailblazer from Hertz which was filthy and smells like someone smoked a few cartons of cigarettes with all the windows closed, and there is nothing else they will give us except a Bolt or pick up. The whole "Cadillac" experience has been terrible. No one really cares, from the dealer to everyone we talked to at Cadillac Customer Care. "It happens. We're sorry." I've renamed it LastCadi and am probably going to drive it to the Lexus dealer and trade it in. Totally disappointed.
I bought a new Cadillac XT4 and 3,000 later the transmission failed. The worse part is that I was bringing home my daughter with a C-section and a newborn. The transmission was not shifting and the other drivers were getting annoyed with me. I was very concern for our safety at this point. Update…no parts available to fix the transmission and therefore no ETA on when the car would
Be ready. I complained to GM and no answer. It’s very sad that a big company like GM is installing faulty transmission and we, the consumer, have to deal with the headaches. Super sad and disappointed.
Well this concerns me. Just bought a 2024 xt5. No problems yet. I’d GM going to issue a recall ? Is this for all 24 model XT5 or just ones built by certain dates
My understanding is there was a bad batch of transmissions made in the first half of 2024. Not all of them. I had one of them. Since I got it back from the dealer with a new trans, I have had no problems.
I purchased a 2017 Cadillac xt5 new. At around 15 or 20 thousand miles it would not up shift. If it didnt shift after a few seconds I'd have to either stop put it in park or put it in neutral and back up to drive while coasting. Then the transmission light came on. I took it to the dealer they said the light needed to be reset. It came on another 3 times. They finally fixed the transmission. I fifiled for lemon law and won (which was hardly anything). Around 30,000 miles it shut off on me as I exited an off ramp on to a 4 lane raod with my daughters. I stopped put it in park and it started up. It has 50,000 miles now and it's happened two more times. Recently on my way to Disney World with my daughters. It's very scary. Also it wouldn't go into reverse or drive had it towed to the dealer and was there three weeks fixing the gear shifter. Paid $3,500. Now my driver front and back seat belts are not working. Won't stay connected. So another trip to the dealer. Other than those problems I love the car.
I purchased the Cadillac XT5 (2024) in May of this year and 3 weeks ago my car would not go into gear. After waiting 5.5 hours to have the car transported back to the dealership, I have been told that the transmission snap ring has been ordered along with a few other parts. We are 19 days in the shop and my car is not fixed.
HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION?
I had a different problem. Mine had bad shifting, Cadillac replaced the transmission, and it took almost 4 months.

When I attempted to post this comment, the message states "looks like I have repeated this comment" No not me!
I purchased my XT5 on March 26, 2024. After 445 miles, the transmission wasn't shifting properly, and the check engine light came on. Took it to the dealer, and they replaced the transmission. It took almost 4 months to get my XT5 back. Fortunately they gave me a loaner while they had my vehicle. This makes me wonder how long it will work now that it is "repaired".
I got my car back from service and within 5 days, the transmission fluid was everywhere under the hood and all over my garage floor, gears slipping, and tachometer was fluttering at all different speeds. I am so mad at this point and fear driving my car. I do not feel safe.
Did you have to get Corporate to authorize the new transmission?
Thank you
