2023 Chevy Silverado Offers New Removable Off-Road Assist Steps

Ushering in a few notable updates over the fully refreshed 2022 model, the 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 represents the fifth model year of the fourth generation of the Bow Tie brand’s venerable light-duty pickup truck. Now, the 2023 Silverado 1500 is available with a new set of removable off-road assist steps.

GM Authority has learned that the removable off-road assist steps, LPO (RPO code RVP) are now offered on the ZR2 trim level for the first time. As an LPO option, these assist steps are installed on-site at the dealership. It’s worth noting that as of the time of this writing, this new option can only be ordered on the ZR2 trim, costs an extra $2,490 for a set of four, and includes the Rocker protection guards, LPO (RPO code NAA).

The removable assist steps attach to the rocker protection guards, and are designed to be removed when off-roading to increase ground clearance. The stainless steel steps include a textured surface to prevent slipping along with a powdered coat finish, and each step can be installed on any mounting point on the rocker protection guards. The steps can easily be installed or removed with the help of bolts and U-nuts. The package adds 22 pounds to the total weight of the vehicle.

As a reminder, the 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 is available with four powerplant options. These engine choices include the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, the atmospheric 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, rated at 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, the atmospheric 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, and the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax, rated at 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque.

In regard to transmission options, the L3B is mated to the GM eight-speed automatic, while the L84, the L87 and the LZ0 are mated to the GM 10-speed automatic.

Under the body panels, the Silverado 1500 rides on the GM T1 platform. Production takes place at the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana, the GM Silao plant in Mexico, and the GM Oshawa plant in Canada.
