As GM Authority was the first to report last month, production of the current-generation Chevy Trax is set to come to an end later this year. Now, General Motors has confirmed that it will debut an all-new Chevy Trax around the same timeframe, with production of the next-gen Chevy Trax set to kick off in the first half of the 2023 calendar year.
As first reported by GM Authority and confirmed by General Motors, the current-generation Chevy Trax will be discontinued after the 2022 model year, with production set to end in the third quarter of the 2022 calendar year. The current-gen Chevy Trax was initially offered in 2013, and later made its way to the U.S. market in 2015.
Going forward, General Motors will unveil an all-new Chevy Trax for the entry-level small SUV segment. This new model will most likely be the Chevy crossover coupe that GM Authority exclusively reported earlier this year. According to GM Authority sources, development of this new Chevy crossover coupe is being led by the GM Korea subsidiary, and will slot in between the current Chevy Trailblazer and the Chevy Tracker crossover, the latter of which is sold in Mexico, South America, and China.
Sources say that the front end of the forthcoming Chevy crossover coupe carries similar styling to that of the Tracker, with elements of the current Chevy Blazer as well, while under the skin, the new model rides on a variant of the GM VSS-F platform. Motivation is sourced from a turbocharged, small-displacement gasoline engine, with front-wheel drive as standard, and all-wheel drive as optional.
Also of note is the recent GM Authority report that GM is set to produce a new Chevy crossover model at its Changwon Complex in South Korea. The GM Changwon Complex, which is located in South Korea’s Gyeongsangnam-do province, is currently responsible for production of the Chevy Spark subcompact hatchback. However production of the Spark is set to end in August, freeing up additional capacity for the next-generation Chevy Trax. As a reminder, the current Chevy Trax is produced at the GM Bupyeong plant in South Korea alongside the Chevy Trailblazer, Buick Encore, and Buick Encore GX.

...because GM cannot have too many crossovers in their lineup. Ugh.
Exactly, I've lost count. Lets keep the Trax & scrap 1 of only 2 performance cars in the lineup. One with over 50 years of history.... Geniuses at GM
The U.S. needs a good small inexpensive vehicle but too bad we can’t make it in the States. Plus as an ex-owner of a 2019 Korean made Bolt I would be afraid that the new Trax would catch fire…….
Matt loves Porsche
Whistle Blower says 6 out of 10 Porsche Taycans leave the factory with battery management issues. Also you can find lots of videos on Youtunbe of Porsche Taycans catching fire.
BTW: the Chevy Bolt is made in Orion Michigan. That’s the only place that it’s ever been Made
Wow, is that where my 2022 Bolt is made at!!! You are so smart.

Peter G:
Hahaha. That one cracked me up. Thanks.
You sound like a fool as always.
I am unaware of any Bolts being produced in Korea, all are built in Orion plant in Michigan. Your battery was built by LG in Korea. I'm pretty sure if you are just looking for Korean Manufactured parts in vehicles you could then probably apply that logic to 90% of vehicles on the road.
Things that don’t correlate: that ^
I though they were gonna discontinue it, they should discontinue it, it is ugly and unreliable
Hence the new refreshed model, so perhaps those issues you mentioned will be addressed?
Coupe equals two doors!
Exactly. Isn't this really a hatchback?
Not since 2004 my friend.
Please build something affordable to compete with the Jeep Wrangler and Ford Bronco that’s not stupid big and expensive (Hummer)!
Old School: I understand your point, but I think you used the totally wrong examples. You can't get into a Bronco or Wrangler any more for under $50,000 unless you are able to order one with bare bones only. Maybe I'm just too poor, but I don't consider $50,000 affordable. Also, comparing those to the hugely over-priced Hummers doesn't help.
GM could import that cheap little Suzuki Jimny again.
It was made in Canada, if you count that as your import.
Will it be sold in the US ?
This sounds like they are just mixing the current Spark with the current Trax and making one new model while deciding to keep the Trax name. Personally, I would have kept the Spark name, but if this new one is smaller than the current Trax and bigger than the Spark, then maybe it makes sense. I just hope it looks more car than SUV.
Spark is a name for an electric car. Maybe they will bring it back.
Mick1: Yes in deed. If GM brought back a Spark EV, I'd buy one in a second. I had the 2015 and loved it. For me (but obviously not all people), having an EV with around 100 mile range would be just fine for what I need as long as it's less to buy/lease.
GM needs a Chevy Tracker 4 door coupe. Cadillac XT3 anyone.
Yea! Finally a smaller model!
Trax is basically a crossover of the US assembled Cruze. My Sonic sedan and its hatch version were as well. Quite happy with the Sonic, which has the no-fuss 1.8 na and 5spd. The suspension, set up by Corvette engineers, provides surprising balance of ride and handling, especially for its size and MSRP. I'm sure it was engineered by the Koreans, as was the nearly bulletproof Suzuki Forenza I once had, so I trust them. But I will never buy anything abused by a turbocharger, nor compromised by inclusion of a CVT or other auto trans.
Rick M: I'm not totally sure which platform the Cruze was on, but the Trax is actually built on the Sonic platform along with the original Encore. Not the Cruze platform is the same.
