GM To Reveal All-New Chevy Trax Later This Year

As GM Authority was the first to report last month, production of the current-generation Chevy Trax is set to come to an end later this year. Now, General Motors has confirmed that it will debut an all-new Chevy Trax around the same timeframe, with production of the next-gen Chevy Trax set to kick off in the first half of the 2023 calendar year.

Current Chevy Trax

As first reported by GM Authority and confirmed by General Motors, the current-generation Chevy Trax will be discontinued after the 2022 model year, with production set to end in the third quarter of the 2022 calendar year. The current-gen Chevy Trax was initially offered in 2013, and later made its way to the U.S. market in 2015.

Going forward, General Motors will unveil an all-new Chevy Trax for the entry-level small SUV segment. This new model will most likely be the Chevy crossover coupe that GM Authority exclusively reported earlier this year. According to GM Authority sources, development of this new Chevy crossover coupe is being led by the GM Korea subsidiary, and will slot in between the current Chevy Trailblazer and the Chevy Tracker crossover, the latter of which is sold in Mexico, South America, and China.

Sources say that the front end of the forthcoming Chevy crossover coupe carries similar styling to that of the Tracker, with elements of the current Chevy Blazer as well, while under the skin, the new model rides on a variant of the GM VSS-F platform. Motivation is sourced from a turbocharged, small-displacement gasoline engine, with front-wheel drive as standard, and all-wheel drive as optional.

Also of note is the recent GM Authority report that GM is set to produce a new Chevy crossover model at its Changwon Complex in South Korea. The GM Changwon Complex, which is located in South Korea’s Gyeongsangnam-do province, is currently responsible for production of the Chevy Spark subcompact hatchback. However production of the Spark is set to end in August, freeing up additional capacity for the next-generation Chevy Trax. As a reminder, the current Chevy Trax is produced at the GM Bupyeong plant in South Korea alongside the Chevy Trailblazer, Buick Encore, and Buick Encore GX.
