Wuling Hong Guang MINI EV Posts Strong Sales In November

The Wuling Hong Guang MINI EV has posted impressive sales figures thus far, with 33,094 units sold in China during November, making the microcar the best-selling EV in the Chinese market, beating the Tesla Model 3. In fact, the Wuling Hong Guang MINI EV was the only EV in China that sold more than 30,000 units in a month.

The sales performance was reported by Chinese automotive news website Gasgoo.

SAIC-GM, one of General Motors’ joint ventures in China, launched the Wuling Hong Guang MINI EV earlier this year. The microcar is offered in three basic and affordable variants, with pricing ranging between RMB 28,800 (about $4,400 at current exchange rates) and RMB 38,800 (about $5,930).

Taking inspiration from Japanese kei cars, the Wuling Hong Guang MINI EV seeks to combine practicality with highly compact exterior dimensions.

The impressive sales performance in November follows a string of earlier sales successes. As GM Authority reported in November, the Wuling Hong Guang MINI EV was the best-selling electric vehicle in China during the month of October as well, with 20,631 units sold. The Wuling Hong Guang MINI EV was also the best-selling electric vehicle in China in August of 2020, with roughly 15,000 units sold, outpacing the Tesla Model 3, which sold 11,800 units during the same time period.

In the first 20 days after GM opened order books in July, some 15,000 orders for the Wuling Hong Guang MINI EV were made, with another 35,000 order made through August.

The Wuling Hong Guang MINI EV comes with two doors for ingress and egress, and four seats to accommodate passengers, as well as a large rear hatch for cargo. With the rear seats folded down, the minicar offers a maximum of 741 liters (26.2 cubic feet) of space. Motivation is sourced from an electric motor producing 13 kW (17.4 horsepower) and 85 Nm (62.7 pound-feet) of torque. Range per charge is rated at 170 km (105.6 miles) in top-trim form, while top speed is set at 100 km/h (62 mph).
