The nearly 9 percent decrease in Chevrolet Camaro sales during the second quarter keeps the sports car in third place in its segment by sales volume, behind the Dodge Challenger and Ford Mustang. By comparison, Ford Mustang sales decreased 7 percent to 21,625 units, placing it in first place in its class, while Dodge Challenger sales decreased nearly 23 percent to 15,237 units, placing it in second place in the segment in terms of overall sales volume during the quarter. It’s worth recognizing that Chevrolet Camaro sales decreased less than the segment average, and that the only model to have a less pronounced decline was the Ford Mustang.

Second-quarter Chevrolet Camaro sales results are not welcome news given the Camaro’s uncertain future, along with a cancellation of what was to be the sixth-gen Camaro Z28. The grave reality is that automakers tend to discontinue cars that aren’t selling well, aren’t turning a profit, or both. GM/Chevrolet has already axed several nameplates from its lineup for that reason, including the Chevy Cruze and Impala.
The decline in Chevrolet Camaro sales seems to be the result of several factors, including higher prices of the sixth-generation model, which continues to push price-conscious buyers to more affordable offerings from Ford and Dodge. The 2019 Camaro refresh aimed to address this via a revised trim level structure with a broader price spectrum. Notably, the refreshed Camaro is as much as $2,000 less expensive than the 2018 model, specifically when it comes to mid-level LT models. Chevy is looking to make the Camaro even more affordable by introducing the all-new Camaro LT1 trim level for the 2020 model year. The LT1 slots between the V6-powered 1LT/2LT/3LT but below the 1SS, and is more competitively priced than the base Challenger and Mustang models equipped with V8 engines.
Other factors that could be contributing to the ongoing decline in Chevrolet Camaro sales are a reduced amount of less discounted models in dealer inventory as a result of a 15 percent discount on 2018 Camaro models throughout the first half of 2019.
In addition, some believe that various product-related issues are holding back Camaro sales, including reduced cabin visibility, a dashboard design that might not be attractive to some, as well as little differentiation from the fifth-gen Camaro in terms of first-glance exterior styling. Chevrolet attempted to address the “little differentiation” issue with revised front and rear fascias on the 2019 Camaro. Alas, the 2019 Camaro facelift backfired for SS models, requiring the Bow Tie brand to deliver a second update for 2020 Camaro SS models.
The Chevrolet Camaro is a family of sports cars that includes a two-door coupe and two-door soft-top convertible as well as various performance variants such as SS, 1LE, ZL1 and ZL1 1LE. The legendary nameplate was first introduced in 1966 and went out of production in 2002, when the model was in its fourth generation. The Camaro was re-introduced in 2009 as an all-new fifth-generation model based on the GM Zeta platform. The Camaro is currently Chevrolet's most affordable sports car, slotting below the Chevrolet Corvette. The current model was introduced for the 2016 model year and represents the sixth generation of the Camaro nameplate. The model rides on the GM Alpha platform shared with the Cadillac ATS and Cadillac CTS, though the majority of the architecture underpinning the Camaro are unique to it. The 2018 Chevy Camaro represents the third model year of the sixth-gen Camaro that deleted the Camaro 50th Anniversary Edition and the Krypton Green exterior color, while adding the ZL1 1LE Extreme Track Performance Package. There's also an expanded availability of the SS 1LE Track Performance Package, which is now available on the 2SS Coupe, as well as the addition of a washer fluid level sensor. A midcycle refresh arrives for the 2019 model year that introduces new, model-specific front and rear styling, a new trim level structure for LT models that adds a new 3LT trim, and a new 1LE track performance package for the 2.0L Turbo LTG engine. The 2019 Camaro also brings the new GM 10-speed automatic transmission for SS models, the Rear Camera Mirror, third-generation infotainment systems, and various other enhancements. The gen six Chevy Camaro is assembled for all markets by GM USA at the GM Lansing Grand River plant in Lansing, Michigan, USA.About Chevrolet Camaro

Geez, Camaro and Silverado in 3rd place in their segments. It just gets better and better.
Remember how the Cruze was the best selling compact car? Maybe GM should pump some money back into their anemic b/c segment. Or maybe they should waste more money on Corvette research...
step 1: Drop that 2.0t into a b/c hot hatch on a new platform and give it an SS badge.
step 2: profit
Don't need to be a car designer to see a trend here. Makes me wonder what the next vehicle that they will destroy. Maybe the Camaro and the Silverado are in third place cuz they're ugly AF,
Information about the car makes people yearn to want this car. I really like the car and the interior of the car.
Ya think it has anything to do with not being able to see out of sob ?????
Which is the ONLY reason that I don't own one.
It is interesting to note that although the Camaro is available as both a coupe and convertible, it is being outsold by the Challenger, which is only available as a very old model coupe.
Bob Lutz has been gone ten years, he approved everything that came out in the past five years or before. He came back to GM in 2001 and he quickly made a lasting impression on products. His influence made GM vehicles stylish and competitive with any brand. It is becoming evident without his leadership, GM is like a boat without a rudder!
I really believe Chevrolet could help sell more Camaro's if they started to advertise them. Dodge has ads that focus on the performance nature of the Challenger and Charger and Chevy used to have similar ads in the late 1960's.
But they have "Real People" who only care about stars and cookies.
This post is a few months old but to add my two cents, the first generation Mustang and Camaro also targeted the young women. My wife, 18 in 1968, the Firebird was her favorite car, a little more dressed upped than Camaro. The Mustang was sometimes referred to as the secretary's car, lightweight, not big, 6 cylinder, automatic easy priced, and easy see the rear end to backup. There is none of that now even with 4 cylinder turbo's offered.
