GM Issues Stop-Sale Order On Select Cadillac Lyriq Units

A software to hardware integration issue with the Cadillac Lyriq has prompted General Motors to issue a stop-sale order on some 2023 Cadillac Lyriq and 2024 Cadillac Lyriq units, which prohibits delivery of the affected units to customers until a fix is eventually applied.

At this point, the exact number of Cadillac Lyriq units affected by this issue is still being assessed. A service bulletin regarding the problem has not yet been sent to dealers as of the time of this writing.

The eventual actions to be taken to remedy the problem with the affected Cadillac Lyriq crossovers are still unknown. Speculatively, affected vehicles already in the possession of customers will likely need to return to the dealership at some point to apply an eventual fix, which will be issued along with a service bulletin or customer satisfaction program.

Alternately, the issue may eventually be fixed using an over-the-air update, though it is much too early to know if this will be the case. A customer satisfaction program was issued for the crossover in March 2024 for functionality problems with the Lyriq’s dashboard storage tray. Another recent problem with the crossover model, drifting headlights, was fixed with reprogramming with no replacement parts needed.

As a reminder, the Cadillac Lyriq is produced in two powertrain configurations. The single-motor variant mounts the electric motor to the rear axle for RWD and develops 340 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque. The AWD units boast a dual-motor setup powering both axles, cranking out 500 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque.

Both configurations are based around GM Ultium battery and GM Ultium Drive motor technology. The RWD variant offers a range of 314 miles on a full charge, while 307 miles on a full charge is offered by the all-wheel drive configuration, per recent range rating data.

Under the skin, the first-generation Lyriq is underpinned by the GM BEV3 platform, with production taking place at the GM Spring Hill plant in Tennessee.

  • Bringing my Wife's Lyriq in for the software upgrade announced in April. Hope it works. It also developed a stress crack in the glass, non-opening roof. The car was never in a car wash and our home car wash person noticed it for us. Nothing hit roof, car is garaged at home and at work. We'll see how GM responds to this. if it happened on ours, must be a problem with others as well.

  • EV's are the biggest scam foisted upon the consumer in the entire history of motorized transport.

    • The Woke Dems are pushing EVs to control people's movements. we charge at home, but use ICE vehicle for anything but my wife's commute. If you only have an EV, you would not drive far. Is it cheaper, NO, they always use average electric costs, but California electric very high. based on my billings, it is not cheaper than an equivalent ICE SUV. Is there a readily published Life Cycle Analysis for EVs vs ICE? I couldn't find. That would show the cradle to grave impacts. My EV is in garage, we have smoke detectors, but a lot of people in my area I see plugged in outside.

      • Why did you buy an EV? Sounds like you didn't do your homework, blame it on the car. Typical GOPer, can't comprehend facts.

        • Bought it because having an EV gets you a car pool, HOV, lane sticker to be able to use HOV lane with only one person and my wife has a long commute. Saves her an hour/day. also, we only charge at home, even with Cadillac 2-year free, more convenient, and save my wife refueling every other day.
I'm an Engineer and did the home work. We looked at several, BMW, Mercedes, and my wife liked the Lyriq the best, so that's she bought it. We did not get for savings, it's not cheaper, insurance more than equivalent ICE, charging in California as much as gasoline, so did not get for economics. As to Greenhouse gas issues, not sure if there is any benefit when you factor in manufacture of all components and end of life disposal. But again we had a specific reason to buy an EV.
          Hope this explains.

      • To one of Germo's comments (conspiracy theory) that he says its the Woke Libs that are tring to control our movements with EVs: Then I guess the Cons are still saying climate change is a scam, the election was stolen (despite over 50 court rulings saying it wasnt), and your boy didnt take and refuse to give back a couple hundred classified documents that jeapordized our national security and intel officers lives, and he didnt sit there for over 3 hrs watching on tv 140 police officers get hurt before calling off the mob he summuned and incited with lies. The Cons need to stop making reality what they WANT it to be so they can justify their beliefs. EVs are probably not for me but they are NOT Libs trying to control your movements, just another conspiracy theory to add to the list.

        • Not responding to politics. But climate change is not a scam. However, it is not human caused, maybe added to it, but how many mountains, valleys, etc were carved as the glaciers retreated? This is not the first, or will it be the last, time the earth has gone through climate change, both hot and cold. there were more than one ice age and there will be more than one climate change. Volcan's put out more greenhouse gases than people cause.
But, EVs are not the answer to anything.

    • Republican President George Bush signed law for $7,500 tax rebate when purchading any electrified vehicle, eithet hybrid or battery. He started the modern push to electrification. Thomas Edison began this over a hundred years ago. Henry Ford did not believe Edison, but Henry's wife, Claire, did and she drove electrics all her life, even establishing records as a woman driver!

  • So far after 7 months and 13,000 miles my 2024 Lyriq AWD has been flawless and trouble free. It is an outstanding vehicle. I love it!

  • What happened to freedom of choice? These MAGA people saying Democrats are blah blah blah should be happy we have choices. I love my lyriq and I have solar panels so I don’t pay any extra to run my EV. I save over $1000 a month from gas and electric bills. How can any of you convince me that Ev’s and solar panels are bad investments. Insane.
