GM To Fix Cadillac Lyriq Headlight Drifting Issue

GM has issued a service update containing a fix for a drifting issue in which the headlights of 2023 Cadillac Lyriq or 2024 Cadillac Lyriq crossovers change their aim during a drive and drift either high or low while on the road.

The headlights of affected Cadillac Lyriq units are likely to have a correct initial aim when the vehicle is first turned on, according to service update N232422480, so the problem only becomes evident while the crossover is being driven.

Dealerships are instructed to check Cadillac Lyriq units in their inventory for the problem and correct it if any vehicles are affected. They are also to provide the fix to any customers who bring a Lyriq to the dealership for any reason after verifying through the GM Global Warranty Management system that the crossover is marked “Open” on its Investigate Vehicle History screen.

The remedy for this problem is reprogramming the Headlamp Control Module so that the Headlight Level-Upper (RPO code TGE) no longer malfunctions and drifts the headlights up or down. No parts are needed for the repair, which is entirely a software fix. Less than an hour is required to complete the task.

The drifting headlight fix is available until the New Vehicle Limited Warranty period ends. GM has also issued several other fixes and updates for the model in recent months. These include fixing an incorrectly fitting dashboard storage tray and a software update for several important onboard modules.

Last year, GM also issued a service update for a high-voltage harness fix for the 2023 Lyriq. Later in the year, the 2024 Lyriq was the subject of another bulletin describing the need to adjust or replace clips on the HVAC coolant sensor harness in 557 affected rear-wheel drive vehicles.

As a reminder, the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq RWD is propelled by one motor mounted on the rear axle rated at 340 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile, the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq AWD is motivated by two electric motors developing 500 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque in total.

The powertrain and drivetrain of the Lyriq use Ultium battery and GM Ultium Drive motor technologies. The full-charge range offered by the RWD variant is 314 miles, with the AWD version providing 307 miles.

The Cadillac Lyriq is underpinned by the GM BEV3 platform under the skin. Production takes place at the GM Spring Hill plant in Tennessee.

  3. It is eye-opening and disappointing how GM requires dealer vistis to fix their many new EV issues, even simple ones like this example. At the same time, Tesla seems to be able to deal with all their frequent software fixes. recalls and ugrades with an over the air update that requires nothing of the owner other than accepting it on the screen…even in the case of cars that were built years ago. The tech integration gap at GM is troubling and doesn’t bode well for hassle free ownership.

    1. I for one prefer the dealer visit over the OTA approach. What do you think will happen when someone breaks the security on the system and issues an OTA that bricks EVERY SINGLE CAR? At least with dealer it will be caught before every car is dead. Don’t think it can happen? Google it. Researchers in Norway and China have both found ways. Convenience is almost always in direct conflict with security.

  4. My Tesla had seamless OTA updates, plus after they were installed you get a list of what was done. My Lyriq only had a few OTA updates and they all caused problems before they were cancelled. What is going on at GM?

  6. Chill out, have a cup of coffee or a snack on Cadillac, read a newspaper, magazine or watch tv and give them an hour to update your software. Our Lyriq has required zero visits to the dealer but if this problem should occur (hasn’t thus far) then I won’t be troubled by a free one hour visit to the service department.
Of course Tesla updates from OTA. When was the last time you were able to visit a Tesla service department? Tried to get Tesla parts? Its no so easy.
