GM has released a new service update bulletin regarding an issue with internal transmission components of select GMC Acadia and GMC Terrain crossovers.
According to Service Update N242446290 published in June 2024, certain 2024 GMC Acadia and 2024 GMC Terrain units may have a condition in which the clutch backing plate retaining ring and/or the clutch piston retaining ring inside the transmission are of specification. Vehicles affected with this condition will need a replacement of the clutch piston housing, performed at a GM dealership.
The bulletin points out that it only involves vehicles in dealer inventory, and the repair will be eligible until July 31st, 2025. Involved vehicles are marked “Open” on dealers’ Investigate Vehicle History screen in the GM Global Warranty Management System. This is not a recall, but affected vehicles must be held at the dealer until the fix is completed.
It’s unclear at this time exactly how many units are affected by this mechanical issue. The service update rounds up the following GMC models mentioned above, but also the 2024 Buick Encore GX, the 2024 Cadillac XT4, the 2024 Cadillac XT5, the 2024 Cadillac XT6, the 2024 Chevy Traverse, the 2024 Chevy Traverse Limited, the 2024 Chevy Blazer and the 2024 Chevy Trailblazer.
As reminder, the 2024 GMC Acadia is equipped with the turbocharged 2.5L I4 LK0 engine that develops 328 horsepower and 326 pound-feet of torque, managed by the GM eight-speed automatic transmission. The Terrain features the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LSD engine with 175 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque, mated to the GM nine-speed automatic transmission.
The new-generation GMC Acadia rides on a revised variant of the GM C1 platform, while assembly now takes place at the GM Lansing Delta Township plant in Michigan, alongside the Chevy Traverse and Buick Enclave. Meanwhile, the GMC Terrain is supported by the GM D2 platform and is built at the GM San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico.

The 8-9 spd tranny, again .
I have a Terrain with 1400 miles. Had it a month and is parked at dealer with the transmission issue. Very disappointed. How long for parts now? There should be some compensation on such a new vehicle. I traded an SRX with 120000 miles with no problems. Im questioning my decision now.
I am now facing the same issue with my 2024 with 1300 miles on it
Same problem and it locked up on me on the highway twice. 2024 GMC Terrain AT4...I was told the recall was in May 2024 and I bought my vehicle June 14, 2024. They should've never sold me the vehicle. I want them to buy it back with compensation so that I can get something else from somewhere else.
My 2024 SLE Terrain has been in the shop since May 23, 2024, with the issue of the ring dislodging. I'm hoping to either keep the AT4 I have had as a loaner, or give me all my money back and I'll spend it on another make and model.
Ran into the same trouble with my 2024 Terrain. Took it to the dealer to get it's first oil change and they tell me that it has a recall for the transmission fix and they are going to keep it until it's fixed. Purchased it in June of 2024 never mentioned anything about a recall at all. Not happy with that my confidence with GM is slowly getting worse. The car is only 3 months old that's terrible.
Glad I found this thread , just in time.
Was considering a 2024 Terrain and trading in .
Looking like the new ride gets bought elsewhere .
