Anybody Miss The Power-Adjustable Pedals In GM Full-Size SUVs?

The current-generation of GM full-size SUVs, which include the Cadillac Escalade, Cadillac Escalade ESV, GMC Yukon, GMC Yukon XL, Chevy Tahoe and Chevy Suburban, are impressive vehicles in their own right, offering a comprehensive suite of comfort and convenience features. However, the GM T1 platform, which all these vehicles are currently based on, lost an important feature from the previous generation, the power-adjustable pedals.

The power-adjustable pedals (RPO code JF4) were last available for GM full-size SUVs on the final model year of the previous GM K2 platform. This means that with the introduction of the T1 platform for the 2021 model year, the convenience feature was no longer available.

The power-adjustable pedal convenience feature had a wide range of availability across the GM K2 platform:

  • Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV: standard on all trim levels
  • GMC Yukon and Yukon XL: optional on SLE, standard on SLT, SLT Standard Edition and Denali
  • Chevy Tahoe and Suburban: optional on Fleet and LS, standard on LT and Premier

As a quick reminder, all full-size SUVs that ride on the T1 platform are set to receive a mid-cycle refresh for the 2024 model year that includes revisions to the front and rear fascias, as well as updates to the infotainment system.

Production of the refreshed 2024 models is expected to kick off sometime in November 2023 at the GM Arlington plant in Texas.

So, we want to know, do you yearn for the power-adjustable pedal convenience feature in your T1 SUV? Vote in the poll below, and fire off in the comments to let us know what your opinion on the matter is!

  • Keep nickel and dime the nice options oh, I forgot we’re too busy building electric vehicles no shortage over there.

    • Without it my legs get numb on long drives and I’d rather drive a nice truck that has CB it, I also wish lighted cornering lights were optional for me as a older person night time peripheral vision sucks especially with tinted windows

  • If you have multiple drivers of extremely different hight they need the adjustable petals.
In a now 70 to 100,000 $ truck you should have this ability to accommodate different height drivers.

    • Right on George! My wife is 5'2 and sitting on top of the steering wheel is a HUGE SAFETY concern for her. We have always owned GM trucks/SUV's but will not be buying anymore GM products until some options are brought back, this being one.

Raise the price of the product, create a safety hazard and drastically cut out the things that brought you customers. Sounds like the CEO is drinking from the same fountain as the current whitehouse administration!

  • my wife is 4'10" and the adjustable pedals are not on her 21 tahoe. she didn't know that we she ordered it. found out when she took delivery of it. wasn't very happy. she has been driving tahoe's since 95 and when gm came out with that option she was in heaven!

    • Exactly! Also the SUV’s and trucks have gotten massive now. We have someone in the family not very tall and I think she sits too close to the steering wheel. A $80k Denali truck doesn’t even have the option.

  • I have had many customers wishing they could have had the adjustable pedal's. Most of those had the need because of their height needing to have seat adjusted high so they had much better view while driving.

  • Had the feature on my Suburbans. Never used them. My 9 inch shorter wife also drove the vehicle. I guess the seat adjustment was all we needed.

    • If you are average height or above, adjustable pedals are probably not something that's on your radar. But for us shorter folks, it is not only a comfort feature, but an essential SAFETY issue. No matter what car makers do to the telescoping steering wheel or the movable seat, if the PEDALS are not adjustable for shorter legs, guess where our legs are in the event of an accident? Right underneath the dashboard! Moving the seat up to reach the pedals only puts us with knees trapped under the dash and chests wrapped in the steering wheel. This situation is neither comfortable nor safe. I would love to get a new vehicle, but my #1 priority for a new purchase is adjustable pedals. For whatever reason, except for Ford, most automakers have dropped the adjustable pedal feature and decided to add non-essential gadgets and luxury items over practical and safety features. So frustrating for shorter consumers! I, as well as many others, won't be buying a vehicle from those automakers unless they can bring back that seemingly small but extremely important feature.

  • Adjustable pedal option came with my 2015 GMC Sierra SLT. Very disappointed when it was absent from by 2020. Not a deal breaker but enough of a problem to look elsewhere next time. As mentioned above, different height drivers are more readily accommodated especially with the memory seat/pedal position option. Yes you set it once, then forget it. Just another way to "raise prices" by removing features that were part of previous option packages. Remember when the Denali had every option included. Now there is the "Ultimate" Denali. Very tricky and "creative" way to raise prices and get more money out of a customer.

  • Yea I bet the Chinese get the option lol. Just kidding but you know how gm is favoring China. We can’t get parts over here but look they seem to be able to build cars and get newer models before us. AMERICA FIRST

  • Since GM has maintained its dominant market share (60%+) in full size SUVs, power adjustable pedals are clearly not a factor in the purchasing decision. Individual comments to the contrary are simply personal opinions.

    • It definitely keeps some people from buying them. I’m not going to eat the steering wheel to reach the pedals.
