The Cadillac F1 entry was finally approved after years of fighting, putting TWG Global on track to become the 11th team on the grid in 2026. While General Motors will eventually begin supplying power units to the team, that won’t happen until 2028. In the meantime, the team inked a deal with Ferrari, which will supply power units as part of a new multiyear agreement.
Ferrari broke the news on December 10th, 2024, when the Italian automaker stated that it will begin supplying power units and gearboxes to the Cadillac F1 outfit beginning in 2026. While Ferrari confirmed a multiyear agreement, it did not disclose the length of the contract, but as previously stated, it’s likely it will last at least until the 2028 season when GM is expected to begin manufacturing its own units.
The Cadillac F1 team initially applied for competition under the Andretti Global banner in 2023. The proposal was immediately met with resistance from the FIA and Formula One Management, kicking off an almost two-year battle to land a spot on the grid. GM was asked to consider shacking up with someone other than Michael Andretti, and eventually, executives got their wish when Andretti relinquished his leadership role at Andretti Global. With Dan Towriss at the helm, the Caddy-backed team was finally approved.
Cadillac has put together a team to work on aerodynamics, chassis and component development, software, and vehicle dynamics simulation. The organization currently operates out of Fishers, Indiana; Charlotte, North Carolina; Warren, Michigan; and Silverstone, England. F1 legend Mario Andretti will take up post as director on the team’s board, while Graeme Lowdon, an F1 veteran himself, was appointed Team Principal.
So far, the driver lineup is a mystery. However, the team indicated that it was interested in securing “young American talent,” as well as tapping a more experienced F1 wheelman for the role. Mick Schumacher has been linked to the Cadillac F1 team, and could very well return to Formula One competition behind the wheel of the GM-backed entry.

This is good. Of the customer team power units it seems that Ferrari have been the most reliable for the past few seasons. Should give Cadillac room to focus on developing the chassis of the car in the early stages, ahead of their own power unit down the road.
Agree. Bottom line the two realistic choices for a near term powertrain supplier were either Ferrari or Honda. All factors considered the choice of Ferrari was a wise one.
Would be great to get the Ferrari engine in the Celesti and Sollei. What halo vehicles they would be.
