The 2024 GMC Terrain will serve as the final model year of the second-generation of the compact crossover. Now, before production on the 2024 model has even begun, GM Authority has learned when assembly of the 2024 Terrain will end as GM prepares to make room for the upcoming fourth-generation model.
GMC Terrain production at the GM San Luis Potosi plant in Mexico is scheduled to end in October 2024, the same month as its corporate cousin, the Chevy Equinox. For reference, production of the 2024 Terrain is currently scheduled to kick off in May 2023, while production of the second-generation Terrain began in 2017.
Once production of the current Terrain does come to an end, the SLP plant will begin production of the overhauled, next-generation model, which GM Authority was the first to report on earlier this month.
As a reminder, the current-generation Terrain was originally slated for a mid-cycle refresh for the 2021 model year. However, due to complications stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, the refresh was pushed back to the 2022 model year instead.

GMC Terrain sales totaled 86,567 units during the 2022 calendar year, an increase of 83 percent year-over-year. The improvement was the result of much improved availability over 2021, which saw production and inventory levels decline as a result of the COVID pandemic.
Meanwhile, the 2024 Terrain is expected to largely be a carryover from the 2023 model, which includes a new engine. The turbocharged 1.5L I4 LSD gasoline engine, which is rated at 175 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque, replaced the older turbocharged 1.5L I4 LYX gasoline engine, which was rated at 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque. GM’s nine-speed automatic transmission serving as the only transmission option. As for structure, the Terrain rides on the GM D2 platform. Pricing for the 2024 model has yet to be announced, but the 2023 model starts at $29,900 in the U.S.

All we know as of yet are the words of GM President Mark Reuss who told investors that the new Terrain is very trucklike and looks much better than the current gen. I wish we heard more about the internals.
