General Motors has announced details for the reveal of the all-new 2023 Corvette Z06. The go-faster mid-engine Chevy Corvette will break cover on Tuesday, October 26th, at 12 p.m. EDT with a new “feature film” that will stream live over the Internet. Following the film, Chevy will host a panel discussion “featuring a variety of individuals who will bring a unique perspective to this new supercar,” according to the automaker.
General Motors shared the first official photo of the 2023 Corvette Z06 late last month, giving us a clear, camo-free look at the sports car’s exterior styling. Finished in Silver Flare Metallic, the Chevy Corvette Z06 shown in the new image reveals the go-faster model’s C8.R-inspired front fascia and larger intakes, as well as a black-painted “wishbone” trim element added to the side air intake.
The 2023 Corvette Z06 makes its presence known with a wide stance and flared-out wheel arches, while in the corners, the new exterior image shows off twin seven-spoke alloy wheels. In the rear, expect to find quad exhaust tips mounted centrally in the rear bumper.
Also expect the new 2023 Corvette Z06 to offer the optional Z07 Performance Package, which includes new aero like a massive rear wing, which GM Authority was the first to report, as well as a new front splitter, dive planes, stickier tires, and lighter wheels.
As GM Authority reported previously, the 2023 Corvette Z06 will feature the naturally aspirated 5.5L V8 LT6 gasoline engine, which is expected to throw down roughly 615 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. What’s more, the LT6 will come equipped with a flat-plane crank, dual overhead cams, and head-spinning 9,000-rpm redline, not to mention an exotic-sounding exhaust note befitting of a world-beating monster like the new Z06. Output is routed to the rear wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
In addition to a Coupe model, the 2023 Corvette Z06 will also be available as a Convertible, as GM Authority captured late last month.

500 lb-ft is very optimistic from 5.5L unless the power peak is well below the 9,000 rpm redline...maybe if in the low 7,000's.
It will be interesting, this is a Cosworth designed engine, and could have some new valve timing/lift mechanisms to help with torque in the mid range (make it more drivable) and still keep HP peak high, I would assume peak power around 7800 RPM, but still pull hard to 8750. If Peak HP was any higher in the rev range the 615 number is weak.
And where did this Cosworth component come from? Not that it's an issue, they've built some great race engines over the years. Just wondering with this nugget came from........
Sorry, I cannot go into any details as neither company has publicly acknowledged the partnership. I was told about this in 2018, and did my due diligence to verify. The engine itself is awesome, and is rumored have some quite exotic components. Corvette fans are awe struck by the flat plane crank, but that is just the beginning on this one from what I understand.
Thanks for the response back. I believe Cosworth developed the PDR for the Corvette and it's not the first time GM has sourced engine technology from Cosworth either. It does feel a bit strange for some of us that have been around a bit longer. Cosworth was a subdivision of Ford for a long time until it was sold off and became it's own engineering entity.

It's not developed by Cosworth, it's in house GM engineering with Pratt & Miller, the LT6 is 100% GM and Corvette Racing designed and developed
Most of this was. These small contract deals are not a big deal and happen often. If a firm owns the rights it is cheaper to hire them than trying to duplicate it.
The front lift is done by the same company that does Ferraris and Lamborghini too.
No sir, Pratt and Miller had nothing to do with the Z06 engine. You dig around and you can find information about this, or take it a step further and stake out Cosworth's plant in MI, and you might see engines coming and going. OEM's often like to brag about "their " Tech, but very often if you look deeper, the really good stuff comes from suppliers. I am not sure about assembly though, GM might be assembling the production engines in Bowling Green, but the cool parts coming from Cosworth in MI. I have seen the cylinder heads, but not a complete engine.
Picking up here again on the whole Cosworth topic & add in Pratt & Miller...... I would actually feel a bit better knowing that either had the lead with design & development vs. it being solely GM. No knock to GM so don't take those words wrong. GM reaching out to a third party with expertise in design, engineering, development of this type of hardware means there's experience at play vs. GM learning and developing as they go. Both Cosworth and Pratt & Miller have long and dignified histories and can clearly showcase their results.
Honestly i could see both having a hand in this new power plant. Easy to see that Pratt & Miller has been doing some R&D with the powerplants in the C8R. It's not a 100% carry over to the street but due to IMSA rules there's a good part that needs to translate to the road going powerplant.
Meanwhile back at the campfire we all speculate on what we think is possible, hope for and dream of which will have to be how it is for another 17 days. Even then the things we are talking about won't be the topic but some answers to the capability will come to light depending on what they share and what they are not ready to share as they still have a whole year to continue development and refinement before any of us will get our hands on one to put in our garages.....

History also says that the published hp numbers are also on the conservative side. This will be quite an automobile I'm sure!
Not as much these days, most OEM if you sampled 10 engines you will find 6 of them are on par with the rating, 2 better, and 2 worse, but all are typically within 5hp, as they are so computer controlled the algorithms keep them in their happy place. Now if you take out the computer controls and throw on a carburetor, the better built engines will stand out more.
I remember back when GM rated the 302 at 290 hp, Ya right... We ran lots of those on the dyno, and never saw less then 350 HP, and good ones were 365HP stock. Even worse on the L88 427, I do not remember the exact numbers, but those engines always overachieved by a wide margin.
Those same computer controls hold back quite bit that tuners can unlock. The potential is still there just under wraps.
Most tuners ignore laws GM has to follow with regard to emissions, and fuel economy. Unlocking potential by adding fuel and timing to the engines. Some companies are better at this than others (seen my share of tuned engines in pieces especially LS7's which don't take well to tuning), but in the future EV's you will buy that extra HP from GM directly either in a lump sum, or monthly, and the update will be sent to your car OTA. It's almost like magic, push a couple buttons, pay a fee and add 100 HP, or crab walk to a Silverado E. The world is changing, and future looks so much brighter.
I suppose what we may be seeing now in cars like the Z06 C8 is approaching the zenith of a mature, soon to be obsolete, technology. These cars will become, almost instantly, classics of the genre, a kind of milestone for the history of the development of the automobile. Kudos to GM for building it. I suspect these cars will always be famous. Buy one if you can.
Have not heard the Cosworth deal. But GM has a long history of working with other companies over the years.
The LNF 2.0 Turbo had work from Saab and Lotus engineering.
The Fiero was always incorrectly stated as getting a Lotus designed suspension. The truth was GM designed but it was tuned for turn in and on center feel by Porsche Engineering.
These deals are common are not a big deal. Let’s not forget the Cosworth Vega and even Ilmore work on previous Corvette prototypes.
Tadge was quoted that they want a flat crank for the sound. The lighter crank is a added advantage for RPM but they wanted the sound if they could harness the vibration. This was his statement before they said they were going to do it.
I would say they were successful in getting the right sound, this Z06 engine sounds great on the track, much better then the Ford Voodoo IMO.
Yes, this engine was originally conceived to go into a Camaro Z28, and the Z06, but of course the entire Camaro program is ending in a couple years, so I understand the Z28 has been shelved. GM might do some small numbers of limited edition Camaro's as they wind down production though for the collectors, and I for one would like to see this engine in a light weighted Camaro track edition.
When the Camaro gets canceled, my life long devotion to Chevrolet will also be canceled!
Pretty exciting to have something like this coming out of GM. Too bad about the Camaro. I'm going to pitch a previous suggestion that GM build a slightly stretched 2+2 version of the C7 as the new Camaro, much as Jaguar once managed to make their XKE into a 2+2 back in the day. It would be exciting to see a hot new 2+2 coupe come out to compliment this great new Corvette.
for me it was the overhead cams, many of the limitations came from pushrods, mercedes has used chain driven overhead cams for a long time, and so have others, i prefer engines that rev high, and have overhead cams. I love my 2021 C8, but will now plan how to trade up and into a Z06.
On the track I agree with you, and you will be thrilled with the Z06, but on the street, I prefer an engine that makes a lot of torque over a broad power range. Hard to beat supercharged engines on the street as they have power at just about any rpm, whenever you step on the throttle, no need to downshift. The CTS-V I had pulled hard even from 1000 rpm, as close as you can get to matching an EV... but once you drive an EV all those seem archaic, especially on the street.
Meh, if you want EV torque from a ICE engine just install a CV trans. Sidenote: I'm noticing the only people excited about our government mandated EV future are old folks. Try hard as I can, never hear anyone under 50 who is genuinely "excited" about EV vehicles.
At worst they younger generations don't care, at best EVs propulsion is an interesting side show. It seem the general public really doesn't care what moves their car as long as it's cheap and efficient.

Not realistic in this car without AWD.
No way... Maybe the upcoming hybrid C8 with the twin turbo motor and E assist, but this Z06 is not a drag racer, it's a road course monster, I would be really surprised if it can get down to 2.5 secs to 60. If I was a betting man, I would bet on 2.5-2.7 secs 0-60. If it takes 3 tenths off a Z51 car that would be huge.
The Upcoming E-Ray or whatever it will be called, that is basically a Z51, with E Assist, might do 0-60 faster then the Z06, but will lose on the road course.
0-60 in 2 seconds flat is almost impossible, the zo6 won't come too close to that but my guess 0-60 in 2.6-2.8 seconds maybe. Maybe a potential 600hp E-ray or a 1,000hp hybrid c8 zora, or whatever they call it, maybe able to hit 2 second flat 0-60. All of this doesn't matter, the zo6 is about having fun and setting respectible lap times. I can tell the zo6 is made to be a true drivers car but without any manual.

2 seconds flat to 60 is almost impossible for gasoline cars, even the fastest car the Bugatti chiron will all the hp and torque can't hit 60mph in 2 seconds flat out. While electric cars, the electric motor drivetrain has an instant torque curb giving the car maximum pulling power from a start. Electric vs gasoline torque curb is different. The electric torque kicks in immediately while gasoline cars take a certain rpm to reach its max torque curb. Gm can make a 1,000 ev C8 supercar that can wreck a roadster easily but there's no point in creating one.
