The production restart date for the Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain crossovers has been pushed back to October 15th, GM Authority can confirm.
The plants that build the Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain were previously set to come back online on October 4th, but a shortage of semiconductor chips has delayed the restart date by another week and a half.
The Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain are produced at three North American facilities, including CAMI in Canada and the Ramos Arizpe and San Luis Potosí plants in Mexico. While the CAMI plant has been offline since February, production of the Equinox and Terrain went offline at Ramos Arizpe and San Luis Potosí in August. GM had initially said production of the nameplates would return at all three plants on September 20th before extending the date to October 4th and now the 15th.
GM plants building smaller, less profitable passenger vehicles have taken a back seat to those building full-size trucks and SUVs amid the global chip shortage, as vehicles like these are the bread and butter of the automaker’s business. Other GM plants that have experienced recurrent downtime this year include GM Wentzville Assembly in Missouri, Lansing Delta Township Assembly in Michigan and Spring Hill Assembly in Tennessee.
These plant shutdowns have resulted in unusually low inventory levels at General Motors dealerships in the U.S. and Canada. Despite the low stock, dealers are reporting record profits, with high demand driving more customers to pay MSRP, or in some cases above MSRP, to get the vehicle they want. Incentive spending has also dropped significantly at GM due to high demand and low inventory, falling by 23 percent in Q2 2021.

There comes a point when GM has to start building because the Equinox/Terrain are among the most popular vehicles. You don't want to lose customers.
Nobody else is building many vehicles either. Ford, toyota, honda and nissan have all shutter plants. You can't build them without computer chips. All car manufactures are having to cut production. GM is smart in getting the high profit vehicles out since it seems people still want trucks and expensive SUV's
I believe the OCT 15 date will be extended even further as we get closer to that date this microchip chip issue is not going away any time soon and GM inventory for small CU V I is very little or none to say the least lots are empty and sales staff taking xtra time off just going have to wait and see for better days I guess.
I just don’t understand why GM can’t make the computer chips in the USA.
The US is actually one the largest semi conductor manufacturers in the world, the problem started before covid though where tariffs spooked buyers in other countries and all the excess stock was purchased to avoid buying them during market/price wars.
Add that in with COVID shutdowns and we are where we are.
I hope the Yukon start date is still 10/4 I have a 2022 order and the dealership said it was a go nothing kicked it back. They called last week with a build date of 10/4

The Bolt being a poorly engineered EV doesn't negate that fact. Fires are basically a hazard from any OEM, doesn't change that trend with what I said, the safety systems in modern cars contributes to that factor, as well as the more stringent ratings from the transportation agencies.
Semi conductors are required for those systems, nothing I said was wrong. You on the other hand went off on some nonsense tangent and actually think that cars from 10 years ago have no difference in terms of safety spec. lmao.

Umm no car crashes are way up from 10 years ago so are the deaths new cars are not safer sorry.

Wronggg. Fatalities when up last year, during the pandemic when road rage and speeding were factors on empty roads. Compared to 10 years ago, they're down. Way down. Nice try though.
