The 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing is a rare breed these days. With a supercharged V8 engine and standard manual transmission, this top-of-the-line Cadillac performance machine adopts a tried-and-true formula already abandoned by other makes. And that’s what makes it so popular among enthusiasts, including one of the most respected autophiles around, Jay Leno. Now, Jay is climbing behind the wheel to take the new CT5-V Blackwing for a spin.
As featured in the latest episode of Jay Leno’s Garage, Jay does his getting to the heart of what makes the 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing tick. Coming along for the ride is Cadillac Chief Engineer Tony Roma, who answer’s Jay’s questions in-depth and rides shotgun for the requisite test drive.
The pair start by going over the specs and details, starting with the powertrain, which features the supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4 gasoline engine. This is the same Small Block found in the C7-generation Chevy Corvette Z06, the Chevy Camaro ZL1 and ZL1 1LE, and the third-generation Cadillac CTS-V. Output gets a bump to 668 horsepower and 659 pound-feet of torque, all of which is sent to the rear wheels through either a six-speed manual, or a 10-speed automatic. You can guess which transmission Jay prefers.
“And that’s what I love about Cadillac, how the brand has reinvented itself,” Jay says. “People that drive these are just amazed at how fast they are and how well they handle.”
Roma also provides insight into the 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing’s suspension and brake setup, as well as the active exhaust system and the interior goodies as well.
Around the 17-minute mark, Jay and Tony climb in and take the 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing out onto the streets of Los Angeles. After poking around town, the pair take the Caddy out to the canyons to see how it handles some corners.

Nothing wrong with Jay's review - that's just his thing and his audience if you're into that. I think the best review I've seen is from The Stig, Paul Gerrard (sp.) at TFL. He really tossed the 6-speed around at VIR
I like Jay but this review was boring. Tony Roma from Cadillac was very dull too. Both men seemed to be going thru the motions.
Amazing!! LONG LIVE THE MANUALS!!
Every time I drive my ATS 3.6 Premium I smile - so much fun to drive. I can't imagine the experience in this beast - and hope to experience it someday (have to decide - Airstream or CT5-V-Blackwing....hmmmm....)
