The 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing is a rare breed these days. With a supercharged V8 engine and standard manual transmission, this top-of-the-line Cadillac performance machine adopts a tried-and-true formula already abandoned by other makes. And that’s what makes it so popular among enthusiasts, including one of the most respected autophiles around, Jay Leno. Now, Jay is climbing behind the wheel to take the new CT5-V Blackwing for a spin.
As featured in the latest episode of Jay Leno’s Garage, Jay does his getting to the heart of what makes the 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing tick. Coming along for the ride is Cadillac Chief Engineer Tony Roma, who answer’s Jay’s questions in-depth and rides shotgun for the requisite test drive.
The pair start by going over the specs and details, starting with the powertrain, which features the supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4 gasoline engine. This is the same Small Block found in the C7-generation Chevy Corvette Z06, the Chevy Camaro ZL1 and ZL1 1LE, and the third-generation Cadillac CTS-V. Output gets a bump to 668 horsepower and 659 pound-feet of torque, all of which is sent to the rear wheels through either a six-speed manual, or a 10-speed automatic. You can guess which transmission Jay prefers.
“And that’s what I love about Cadillac, how the brand has reinvented itself,” Jay says. “People that drive these are just amazed at how fast they are and how well they handle.”
Roma also provides insight into the 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing’s suspension and brake setup, as well as the active exhaust system and the interior goodies as well.
Around the 17-minute mark, Jay and Tony climb in and take the 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing out onto the streets of Los Angeles. After poking around town, the pair take the Caddy out to the canyons to see how it handles some corners.

Jay also mentions having driven the HummerEV, and seems to think it was pretty cool.
Good review, but I like Raiti’s rides “on throttle” review of the CT5-V Blackwing better.
Sorry, that dude drives me nuts with his styling reviews, trying to talk like he is a designer, and the Redline guy is now trying the same thing, but the Zonk’s get me to stop the video immediately.
Hey — the C pillar should get zonked and I love the review of every exterior detail.
And Joe’s “on throttle” launches are far livelier than Jay’s cruise-around. I like Jay, too, don’t get me wrong… but the new reviewers are much more fun to watch.
F… jleno.. most don’t care what thinks despite that he thinks he is a big shot
Shut up Ignorant clueless Dan.
Wow, it’s so nice that Jay can get a Blackwing! Maybe he can get a Vette or a Camaro too and not wait like the rest of us. GM kissing a has been celebrity’s ass! I wonder if he paid a market adjustment?
Is that the only shirt he owns?
He wear’s the same outfit all the time to make shooting less of a headache. If they have to reshoot a scene say the next day or so they don’t have to wait for a wardrobe change. I know wranglerstar of youtube fame does the same thing.
I don’t know why people think Jay Leno is so wonderful? Yes, he has driven a ton of different vehicles, but this video is him once again blabbing incesently about himself and random stuff… he’s still always on stage. Not to mention the years have not been kind to him… looks like his face is melting in that video.
About as interesting as Jerry Seinfeld doing a Porsche review. Just because you have more money than God and huge car collection, does that make you an expert? I’d rather watch that pretentious brit Jeremy Clarkson from Top Gear do a review than some old talk show host.
Why do all these people pick on these type of reviews. Their damn lucky to be able to see them in the 1st place. Leno may not be perfect but he is one of the best friends the automobile industry has. If you don’t agree look up Ralph Nader’s Corvair comments.
Enjoyed Jay and Tony’s commentary.
Having been fortunate to enjoy many decades of automotive pleasures, their stories/analogies were so relatable…including owning a ‘63 Corvette SWC with 4 wheel drum brakes where today you feel the need to anticipate slowing down in advance of a changing green light or slowing traffic well off in the distance.
Chuckled at Jay asking if he should try the “no lift shift” feature.
Great car! Way to go, Cadillac!!!
He’s talking about all sorts of ramdom stuff instead of talking about the car. Joe raiti did a better job of reviewing the cadillac even though I’m not a big fan of his twinkly shananigans.
Joe Raiti also did a review of the CT4-V Blackwing, too.
GM Authority should post his videos — you really gotta like anyone who drives a Camaro ZL1 1LE and gushes over it.
Nothing wrong with Jay’s review – that’s just his thing and his audience if you’re into that. I think the best review I’ve seen is from The Stig, Paul Gerrard (sp.) at TFL. He really tossed the 6-speed around at VIR
I like Jay but this review was boring. Tony Roma from Cadillac was very dull too. Both men seemed to be going thru the motions.
Amazing!! LONG LIVE THE MANUALS!!
Every time I drive my ATS 3.6 Premium I smile – so much fun to drive. I can’t imagine the experience in this beast – and hope to experience it someday (have to decide – Airstream or CT5-V-Blackwing….hmmmm….)
