Three months after the official launch of the new Chevrolet Onix RS in Brazil, General Motors has just presented the model for the first time in Argentina. The RS trim is the most significant addition for the 2021 model year of the second-generation Chevrolet Onix hatchback, arriving in the Argentine market to further strengthen the vehicle’s local popularity, which ended 2020 as the country’s best-selling car.
The automaker is showing the 2021 Chevrolet Onix RS at a special summer event in the seaside resort of Cariló in Argentina, as the second new product the brand has unveiled at the Paseo del Bosque Chevrolet (or Chevrolet Forest Walk) exhibit after the Chevrolet Silverado Diesel. As such, the Onix RS will be on display until February 1st and will subsequently reach Argentine dealerships.
“The new Onix RS joins the family aiming to continue the expansion of our portfolio and to maintain this vehicle as a benchmark in the segment,” said Marketing Executive Director at GM South America, Hermann Mahnke, in an official press release. “The Onix RS was designed for users who want to express their personality and attitude, with a turbocharged vehicle and sporty looks that result in a winning formula on the streets,” he added.
First launched early last year in Colombia, the 2021 Chevrolet Onix RS is the most aggressively styled variant of the successful subcompact, created specifically to captivate a new customer profile demanding a more expressive look. In fact, the Onix RS inaugurates a new series of visually sporty variants the Bow Tie brand is scheduled to launch over the next year for several of its models in the Argentine market.
Aesthetically, the new Chevrolet Onix RS stands out with a unique grille design, more prominent and sculpted spoilers on the lower ends of all sides of the vehicle, a rear spoiler, black-framed headlight clusters with LED DRL lighting as well as an overall darkened finish for the roof, mirrors, wheels, and logos.
The 2021 Chevrolet Onix RS will arrive in Argentina at the end of the first quarter of this new year. It’s equipped with the same turbocharged 1.0L I-3 engine featured in other upscale variants of the Onix in the region, producing 116 horsepower and 122 pound-feet of torque. Unlike the Brazilian configuration that includes a six-speed automatic transmission, the Onix RS for the Argentine market will offer a five-speed manual transmission.

Why GM doesn't make this car global and waste resources on a regional car. Continue to make in SA then add China and sell everywhere China, Southeast Asia, Central Asia, Europe, Africa, Mexico, even in the states replace Sonic, Spark and Cruze with one car. In this way you avoid loses and not able to reach break-even due to limited production numbers.
No thanks to the GEM platform coming here. Bring some of the production from the new VSS-F platform from Korea to the states instead. Although the 1.2t in a front wheel drive vehicle of this size with anything other than a CVT would probably not be all that terrible of an entry level car, It'd honestly probably be more fun to drive than the Trailblazer, a bit less refined though.
Think they'll take a money bath by making it US compliant in which why Sonic died. Probably with Mexican production they can bring it here.

The engine options are terrible!!!!!!! 1.0T engine??!?!??? I really like the hatchback body, but the engine options suck. Why can’t us North American folks get a Chevy hatchback???? All we have is that ugly bolt EV.
But imagine if GM put the 1.2L and 1.3L I3 in it.
