Fiat Chrysler has released the first official teaser images of its new Jeep Grand Wagoneer full-size SUV, which will serve as a direct rival to the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL.
The new teaser images show the unique, illuminated grille of the new Jeep Grand Wagoneer, along with a close-up of the ‘Wagoneer’ nameplate and two ultra-detailed macro shots of the SUV’s interior.
The teaser image showing the grille reveals the Wagoneer will retain the brand’s recognizable seven-slot grille design, which will be backlit by LEDs to give it a head-turning, imposing look. The close-up of the ‘Wagoneer’ nameplate, meanwhile, reveals a high-end looking badge with gold letters with a silver face. Joining the ‘Wagoneer’ text is an American flag, which serves as a reminder that this new three-row is an all-American product.
Finally, the interior teasers give us a zoomed-in look at the control dial that will be mounted on the center console, along with the push-button start. It’s not clear if the rotary dial seen in the photo will be used to select the transmission mode or if it will be used to control the infotainment system. The photo showing the push-button start, meanwhile, reveals a high-end looking double-stitched housing for the button, along with a thin open-pore wood trim piece running just below it.
As we pointed out previously, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer will be a direct rival to the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL. FCA has managed to keep almost all details on the body-on-frame SUV a secret, but we expect the SUV to feature four-wheel-drive and an available V8 engine. The automaker’s 5.7L HEMI V8 may make an appearance, along with its 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 and 3.6L Pentastar V6. In the latest Ram 1500 pickup truck, all of these powerplants mate with the automaker’s TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic.
GM holds a dominant position in the full-size SUV segment. Last year, the automaker held nearly 60 percent of the full-size SUV market share, though that number included the Cadillac Escalade luxury SUV. In that time, GM sold 158,146 more full-size SUVs than Ford, 212,057 units more than Nissan and 244,671 units more than Toyota. Jeep will be hard-pressed to try and compete with GM in this space, then, but the Grand Wagoneer may be able to pull some customers away from The General if FCA can convince buyers it’s the superior product.
As our sister site, Ford Authority also pointed out, the Grand Wagoneer will also serve as a rival to the Ford Expedition.
The Jeep Grand Wagoneer is expected to start at around $60,000 USD when it goes on sale next year, with fully-loaded examples extending into the low $100,000 range. Look for a complete rundown on the new full-size SUV following its debut on September 3rd.

Competition is always a good thing! Always have been a fan of GMs real BOF SUVs. Ford Expedition who cares! I hope Jeep has many V8 options like GM.
Jeep is taking chances - hopefully its a winner!
I seen a lot of people saying that it will be a threat to the Escalade and its rivals and will compete with them but I just dont see that happening whatsoever. It looks cool and all and in seen the interior renderings but I highly doubt that it will even come close to the Escalade or its rivals. Hell jeep isnt even a luxury brand.
I saw 2 reports of this last week and the only question I had was, Why? Why would they go after the luxury market when they could go to the heart of the market with a Tahoe/Expedition competitor? Hell, we got $85K Tahoes. Why go above that?
Because Like Alfa Romeo taking back its crown of best Sports Sedan , something AR created. Jeep wants to do the same with bringing back the Wagoneer's which was the first Luxury SUV before Range Rover was ever a thing.
But why does it need to start, base price/trim, at a luxury level? Why can't it reach luxury with higher priced trims like a Super Wagoneer? Undercut the Tahoe/Expedition, then go up from there. Volume is going to make them money, not taking buyers from an already smaller segment of buyers. Just my 2 cents.
There are 3 SUVs planned for FCA: Dodge Durango, jeep Wagoneer, Jeep grand Wagoneer.....
Durango = Tahoe
Wagoneer = Yukon
Grand Wagoneer = Escalade
That's the preferred lineup I envisioned, but Chrysler getting the top of the line. Poor Chrysler.
Isnt the Wagoneer supposed to be a shorter wheelbase while the Grand Wagoneer longer wheelbase, similar to Tahoe and suburban? Then each would have comparable trim levels? That's essentially how the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee work.
No the Wagoneers are all one wheel base. As for the Cherokee’s. The Cherokee is A FWD compact suv. The Grand Cherokee is a RWD midsizer. The next Grand Cherokee will also have a 3 row option which will be kinda extended. It’s basically a brand new Durango replacement under jeep brand. Durango later goes BOF (think Tahoe).
When the New 2022 Compass Interior is shown, New Grand Cherokee's Debut, you'll think otherwise. Also, The Grand Cherokee as been the most Mainstream Premium American Mid size SUV for years. It competes with many Budget 5 Passenger Crossovers and is often Cross-shopped with Range Rover's, X5, and ML's with its Limited/Summit Trim, to its Track Hawk Trims.. GM has nothing to compete, Ford has the very well designed Aviator.
FCA has given Ram and many Jeeps luxury touches. This is why the two brands are the only American marques owned/parked beside German imports.
Respectfully , the Jeep name has a iconic and respected name.
It will probably be like the new Ram pick up, nice looking in and out, but unreliable.
The new Ram is unreliable? Are you sure you aren't just assuming that?
Not assuming Nate, i read.
The Jeep Grand Wagoneer should be a very exciting edition to the full-size SUV space. However, General Motors has a huge advantage in this segment right now with their all-new full-size SUVs. Their interiors, being vastly improved compared to their predecessor models are now best in the segment via the top trim versions of the Suburban Premier/High Country, Yukon Denali, and Escalade Platinum. The new Ford Expedition is also a competitive full-size SUV product, but its interior space is now far behind the GM SUVs in regards to fit, finish, and quality of its interior for its price point and hasn't aged very well despite just being 3 years old. FCA has been making excellent interiors in some of their other products like the Chrysler Pacifica and especially the RAM 1500, and I hope they bring that attention to detail to the interior of the new Wagoneer. Fingers crossed.
The only interior worth mentioning from GM is the Escalade, which to me still lacks Detail other than its Huge Screen (which isnt really Huge as its really 2 screens *Rollseyes*) Also them GM SUV's have yet made it to Production. Its going to be really interesting when Jeep Starts sellign this Wagoneers. Also The Durango is going BOF so that will take care of the Tahoe while the Wags take on the Yukon and Escalade.
Don't know if you've been keeping track of current events but the new GM SUV's are on the lots right now, I've already seen 2 Yukon Denali's on the road......
IMO, this is way overdue. I'm a big fan of Jeep and have owned many of them (even when I was still working at the Buick, Cadillac, GMC and Honda store). Outside of the two diesel Jeeps (2005 Liberty and 2006 GC), I've never had any issues with any of them. Funny, the two diesels were both import brands (the worst was the GC with the Mercedes Benz diesel) and the only issues I had were totally engine related. Anyhow, Jeep and Chrysler and Dodge have been totally starved for product and I just can't figure out why they haven't given Chrysler any SUV/CUV! Huge mistake. I recall when they brought out the previous gen Durango along with the Chrysler Aspen. I liked the Durango then, but LOVED the Aspen. Great looks. Great interior. Great name. And it could seat more than 5. They should have never stopped the Aspen and if they had kept it going it would be a huge plus for them. I still feel the more lux versions should be the Chrysler, but don't ever underestimate the power of the Jeep brand. Old Grand Wagoneers are a cult vehicle. People pay 40 grand or more for a fully restored version and they really were the lux model at that time. I really feel that if Jeep does this new Grand Wagoneer well, they will sell every one with a high transaction price point. I'm not afraid they will ever unseat GM in this department, but they sure could do a lot of damage to the other brands in this segment.
I have a bad feeling this interior will leapfrog the Tahoe as did the 1500 completely leapfrog the F-150 and especially the Silverado.
We'll see. The new Tahoe's interior is a vast improvement compared to the old generation, and light years better than the new Ford Expedition's cabin which still has inferior and cheap interior plastics on higher trim levels. I hope the new Grand Wagoneer's interior will get similar attention to detail as the Ram or Pacifica. Fingers crossed.
@Mr. Pink
I completely agree with you. The Tahoe interior is very nice indeed but I fear that Jeep will once again raise the Bar. That is the issue with GM and interiors, they never have the absolute Best in Class. They do not push far enough. As an example...why does the Yukon Denali get nice metal rotary knobs but the Chevrolet High Country does not? Makes zero sense. If we are to believe GM the majority of the people do not cross shop GMC and Chevrolet.
And I think it is missed opportunity that the new Tahoe/Yukon do not offer a rotary knob to control the infotainment screen. Would be great for especially shorter Drivers.
GM always dumps on Chevrolet unless it's the Corvette. It's literally like they Try to ruin the brand. With the bizarre front ends they've been putting on the trucks, GM's best seller, you really have to wonder? When KIA, Ford and Dodge/Ram offer nicer interiors and packages than Chevrolet you have problems. Chevy has been losing long time loyal customers for the last 15 years at least. As a Chevy guy, it's sad to watch.
I totally agree Matt. GM needs to start spending more resources, time, and research in their interior department. Customers are too savvy today. All the info is in the palm of their hands. Most potential customers that are non GM fans view GM products as cheaply made. But the only cheap things in my opinion about GM vehicles are their interiors. They have great and competitive power-trains.
Personally, I could care less about the switch gear looking premium. As long its functional, that's all I care about. The interior space of the new top trim Suburban and Tahoe Premier/High Country are already good and premium for their price point, but without going fully-blown luxurious. If full on luxury is what I want as a BOF SUV customer, that's why I would go with a GMC Yukon Denali or the new Cadillac Escalade.
The new Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade offer great interiors for their price point (Feeling like a more luxurious vehicle than a mainstream CUV) but the new Tahoe and Suburban are right next to them in that regard.
Yeah but a Tahoe High Country is 80K so I want the absolute best for my hard earned money.
This segment is dying, more people are moving to pickup trucks and midsize SUVs. Less and less people can afford these things.
People buy things they can't afford all the time. They make payments for 84 months on things they want, as long as the payments are low.
Also it's a Jeep, so the resale will be stupid high and they can just lease it.
You make good points but times have really changed in my world and the pandemic has made it worse. There was a time when neighbors, parents of my kids friends, and co-workers had these big SUV'S. Now almost everyone has either moved over to a pickup truck or a midsize suv. The few that have them picked them up preowned for the most part. Yes, you use to be able to lease one for about 600 a month but you can't do that anymore. I only see this segment getting smaller and smaller especially with full size pickup trucks getting roomier in the last five years. No one really wants in one this segment and I think the writing is on the wall.
One word👈🏾 JEEP
Meaning it's offroad capabilities is going to be better than any of those Govt Limousines. Jurrassic Park chose they brand for a reason.
They also chose a Ford Explorer for the movie lol
I hope the Hellcat engine becomes an option
