2021 Cadillac Escalade Diesel Will Go Into Production 3 Months After SORP

The all-new 2021 Cadillac Escalade brings with it a long list of next-gen updates and fresh features, not the least of which is the addition of a new diesel engine option. Now, GM Authority has learned that the new Escalade diesel will see late availability, with production launching roughly 12 weeks after Start of Regular Production (SORP).

With SORP for the 2021 Cadillac Escalade scheduled for June, the Escalade diesel is expected to start rolling off the line around the August to September timeframe.

The news follows on the heels of several GM Authority exclusives covering late availability for diesel engine options in General Motor’s other next-gen SUVs, including the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe and 2021 Chevrolet Suburban, as well as the 2021 GMC Yukon. Each of these full-sizers, as well as the 2021 Cadillac Escalade, are produced at GM’s production facility in Arlington, Texas.

Under the hood, the new Cadillac Escalade diesel equips the turbocharged 3.0L I6 LM2 Duramax, which produces 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, and mates to the GM 10-speed automatic transmission. The diesel engine will be offered as a no-cost option, while standard appointment includes the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87, which produces 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, and also mates to the GM 10-speed automatic transmission.

The new Cadillac Escalade diesel will offer “significant” fuel economy gains when compared to the standard gas-powered V8, as stated by Escalade Marketing Manager Dave Schiavone in an exclusive GM Authority interview. Although official fuel return figures from the EPA are currently unavailable for the diesel engine option, the standard gas engine is rated at 15 mpg in the city, 20 mpg on the highway, and 17 mpg combined when equipped with 2WD, and 14 mpg in the city, 19 mpg on the highway, and 16 mpg combined when equipped with 4WD.

  • Might as well get on a list now. This would be my most luxurious surf fishing vehicle to-date; all of the comforts of home. Be lucky to have one by November 1st.
