So far, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Trail Boss has exceeded GM’s expectations. In fact, the off-road-focused trim level has done so well in terms of sales response, The General has decided to double production. Of course, that leaves us asking: what about a Chevrolet Silverado HD Trail Boss? Notably, Chevrolet has not announced a Trail Boss variant for its new Heavy Duty rig.
In many ways, it makes a lot of sense to apply some of the same Trail Boss gloss (Trail Boss mud?) to the Silverado HD line. After all, Ram has the Power Wagon and Ford just released the Tremor, an off-road package for the Super Duty that offers up rough-stuff extras like a suspension lift, skid plates, and offroad tires, along with a number of other goodies. As we examined previously, this pretty much leaves Chevrolet at a competitive disadvantage, with nothing to go head-to-head with Ram or Ford in the heavy-duty off-road space.
That said, a Chevrolet Silverado HD Trail Boss variant isn’t exactly all that far-fetched. After all, GM already offers the GMC Sierra AT4 Heavy Duty (HD), a trim that’s positioned at the higher end of the Sierra HD line. It comes with off-road-ready Rancho shocks, skid plates, and all-terrain tires.
So why not offer some of that goodness on the Chevrolet Silverado HD as well? We’d argue that a set of new wheels and tires, some offroad-oriented suspension, plus a few bits and pieces for the exterior would round out the package quite nicely, all while preserving the towing and hauling capability of the Silverado Heavy Duty.
As always, we lay the question at your feet, dear readers. What is your opinion on the matter? Should GM produce an HD-level Chevrolet Silverado Trail Boss? I would bet there's a whole slew of "variants" in the pipeline...
Nobody cares about another 4x4 variant....
We want our single cab short beds back.
I'll never buy a new chevy until those trucks come back...
I'm pretty sure most Chevy guys want both. I know I do.
Hasn't GM been at a competitive disadvantage to Ford and Ram all year? The truck is meh and the interior is straight out of a Yugo.
Depends on the criteria you're comparing. The Ram is a disappointment in many actual measures of truck capability and despite all the hype over the 1000 lb ft Cummins, it's limited in availability and the rest of the trucks get the weaker version of the 6.7. The crew cab is also an older version with less space inside.
If GM and Chevrolet get trucks that people can afford and not take out a mortgage to get one would be one thing. BUT, HOW MANY DIFFERENT TRUCKS DO THEY HAVE TO MAKE.
IT'S ALL THE SAME STUFF LIKE BACK IN THE EIGHTIES AND NINETIES WERE THEY TELL YOU CAN'T GET THIS WITH THAT UNLESS YOU GET THIS PACKAGE OR THIS TRUCK.
THEY ALL DO IT. BUNCH OF OVER PRICED, OVER PACKED, UNNEEDED CRAP.
A trail boss HD truck would sell extremely well. Id wager it would sell as well as the 1500 variant. Guys want a bada$$ looking truck even if it never leaves the pavement and nothing says bada$$ like lifted mud tire 4x4 truck.
Jwl...."guys" aren't the only ones who want a "bada$$" looking truck ? us ladies enjoy them, too!?
I stand corrected!!
Been wondering why the AT4 package is available for both light and HD versions of the Sierra but the Silverado doesn’t have a Trailboss version. Definitely be updated in terms of ride height, size of wheels and tires. Twenties with bigger sidewalls would be a nice place to start. It’s time the rear Multipro tailgate made its way over also for those of us that aren’t willing to give up on this feature but really want a Chevy.
I have a 2019 Trail Boss and I really enjoy it. I was saddened though to find out it didn't come in the LTZ version. I really wish it had. It's still a great vehicle!
I have a 2019 trail boss z71 now I love it if Chevrolet did build a HD style trail boss I will buy one. Everyone saying it looks hideous then complain GM doesn't do enough to change there trucks then complain when it's not to your liking. I love the changes I can say I wasn't a fan of the new looking Silverado but once I seen it in person I had to have one. Chevrolet build the trail boss HD people will buy it.. i know i will .....
Just make a regular 4 x 4 pickup with 2 doors and an 8 foot bed. You know the kind of truck you could haul things with and have fun too.
