So far, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Trail Boss has exceeded GM’s expectations. In fact, the off-road-focused trim level has done so well in terms of sales response, The General has decided to double production. Of course, that leaves us asking: what about a Chevrolet Silverado HD Trail Boss? Notably, Chevrolet has not announced a Trail Boss variant for its new Heavy Duty rig.
In many ways, it makes a lot of sense to apply some of the same Trail Boss gloss (Trail Boss mud?) to the Silverado HD line. After all, Ram has the Power Wagon and Ford just released the Tremor, an off-road package for the Super Duty that offers up rough-stuff extras like a suspension lift, skid plates, and offroad tires, along with a number of other goodies. As we examined previously, this pretty much leaves Chevrolet at a competitive disadvantage, with nothing to go head-to-head with Ram or Ford in the heavy-duty off-road space.
That said, a Chevrolet Silverado HD Trail Boss variant isn’t exactly all that far-fetched. After all, GM already offers the GMC Sierra AT4 Heavy Duty (HD), a trim that’s positioned at the higher end of the Sierra HD line. It comes with off-road-ready Rancho shocks, skid plates, and all-terrain tires.
So why not offer some of that goodness on the Chevrolet Silverado HD as well? We’d argue that a set of new wheels and tires, some offroad-oriented suspension, plus a few bits and pieces for the exterior would round out the package quite nicely, all while preserving the towing and hauling capability of the Silverado Heavy Duty.
As always, we lay the question at your feet, dear readers. What is your opinion on the matter? Should GM produce an HD-level Chevrolet Silverado Trail Boss? Obviously they should have, considering the ChevyC AT4 has a HD version and the fact that ChevyC and Chevrolet are the same company. On the other hand though, it doesn't really make sense to have off-roading versions of HD trucks bc they will never truly be off-road friendly due to their weight and suspension expectations, so maybe the HD AT4 was a bad idea and not Chevylet's lack of HD trail bosses. But innovation follows the money and trail bosses sell like crack. Financially it would be a brilliant move, just bad principal. Truly a huge catch 22.
Great post. My new iPhone is not cooperating. I went from a six upgraded to an iPhone 11. It doesn’t seem to wanna take any of my passwords for my bill paying and, there’s just a lot of features that works better on the six like fingerprint ID. Face ID recognition is not working Correctly? I guess I have to transfer everything over to my iPad. Sorry for the complaining. But I did respect your response.
