GM Has 100,000 Reservations And Orders For EV Pickups

GM currently has 100,000 reservations and orders in place for its new all-electric pickup models, which includes the Chevy Silverado EV, the GMC Sierra EV, and the GMC Hummer EV Pickup. The automaker expects to fulfill the reservations and orders through the 2024 and 2025 calendar years.

The latest insight was provided by General Motors CEO Mary Barra during the automaker’s Q4 2023 earnings presentation, during which several other insights into The General’s EV strategy were revealed.

General Motors’ all-electric pickup offerings are rapidly expanding, with several new models and model variants coming down the pipe. Among these are the Chevy Silverado EV RST and Silverado EV Trail Boss, as well as the GMC Sierra EV Denali and subsequent variants (Sierra EV Elevation and Sierra EV AT4).

General Motors continues to pursue its goal of transitioning its light-duty vehicle portfolio to zero tailpipe emissions by the 2035 timeframe, and to become fully carbon neutral by 2040. To that end, GM announced in 2021 that it would launch 30 new EV models globally by mid-decade, with 40 percent of the automaker’s U.S. models equipped with all-electric powertrains by the end of 2025.

GM also previously announced plans to build 400,000 EV units in North America by the mid-point in the 2024 calendar year, but has since walked back on those plans. The General now indicates that North American EV production will be between 200,000 and 300,000 units during the 2024 calendar year.

“We’re going to be led by the customer,” Barra said during a press event late last year. “But I do believe this transition will happen over a period of time.”

During the recent Q4 2023 earnings report, Barra also indicated that General Motors would reintroduce plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) to its North American portfolio as a means of meeting rising fuel economy and emissions standards amid the company’s EV transition.

    • Yeah, that would work well up in the oil fields in January. One road shutdown due to an accident and you will be an ice cube before the road reopens.

      • This is called someone that doesn't understand EV's.

        EV's don't have an idling engine. A Sierra EV would be able to sit for days at -50C and keep it's occupants warm. Far longer than a combustion vehicle.

        • Once again, EV’s are fine for urbanites that commute to and from work and get groceries, ect. But not are they not fit for people or industries that need them to cover many miles a day, electric cars and trucks, plus all the other clean energy projects, for which they are using scare tactics and mandates. None of which is going to save the planet from another ice age, for which none of us will be here to see. But likely, there will be billions that die when it does happen !

        • No it won't. Someone doesn't understand how batteries work. So right now they just did a study and EVs range drops dramatically in cold weather. Those batteries would drain in a hurry. Then just like what happened in Chicago in the last cold snap. People would be lined up for days to charge because they won't charge almost at all. So thet tired them to the service center to charge.

  • I thought we were finally past the reservation schmeservation idiocy. They mean absolutely NOTHING.

  • We’ll see, Hertz thought everyone would want to rent a Tesla from them. Wrong, no one wanted to rent a Tesla from them. It’s a niche market but the woke CEO’s don’t get it because they don’t understand their customers.

    • Vast majority of all EV sales, are through government entities or rental companies anyway. Unfortunately, we are footing the bill for all the government entities, in order to boost sells for the manufacturers!

  • They won't sell that many. If they somehow do, over 3/4's will be for sale in a year, when people realize how much time and effort it takes to plan to charge them, batteries don't last the range they suppose to, the battery when towing is atrocious...

    Go read Motortrends article on the Ford Lightning, they have had for a year. The guy literally dreaded taking it on vacation because of FEAR of being stranded. Total pass!!

    • Takes me less than 5 seconds to plan to charge my EV.

      Come home - plug in - done. Sleep and wake up with a full "tank" every morning.

      • It’s great that you can charge it at home every night, but try going on a cross country vacation and see how well you do !

    • When the battery goes bad I bet it will cost just as much as the truck did new. I will never own a EV.

  • I put my reservation in for the Silverado EV on March 2022 and haven't heard anything since. I just purchased a new Ford F150 Lightning EV, Awesome truck!!!

      • I live in upstate New York where it is cold. I don't tow, I don't go on long trips with it, I drive it locally and within the limits of the 240 mile range, and most importantly, I charge it only at home. The charging infrastructure isn't what it should be to take these on road trips unless you're a person that likes frustration and aggravation. I am totally happy driving it within these parameters. Charging at home at 15 cents a kWh saves me a ton of money over charging at charging stations. Love the torque it has!!!

  • Received the call... order placed. The dealer said reservation holders were dropping like snow flakes. One buyer out of twenty reservations placed. The prices quoted when reservation was placed WAS NOT HONORED. The EV3X price increase was 5 grand. Didn't matter, that's what I wanted. Delivery in 90-120 days
