2024 GMC Sierra 1500 Offers New Drop-In Bedliner

Two years removed from a mid-cycle refresh, the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 features various updates for the new model year, including fresh options and expanded powerplant availability. Now, the 2024 Sierra 1500 is available to be ordered with a new drop-in bedliner option.

Offered for an extra $495, the LPO or dealer-installed drop-in bedliner (RPO code VZX) is available on Pro, SLE, Elevation and SLT trim levels, and includes a tailgate liner. Notably, this feature is not offered on AT4, AT4X, Denali or Denali Ultimate trims.

It’s worth noting that there are several stipulations when equipping this new option, including:

  • On the SLE trim, it can’t be ordered in conjunction with the X31 Off-Road Protection Package (RFX).
  • On the Elevation trim, it can’t be ordered in conjunction with the X31 Off-Road Protection Package (RFX) or the Elevation Premium Package (CHX).
  • On the SLT, it can’t be ordered in conjunction with the X31 Off-Road Protection Package (RFX), the SLT Premium Plus Package (PDT) or the Texas Edition SLT Premium Plus Package (PDW).

Now, for our readers wondering if General Motors already offers a bedliner solution for the Sierra 1500, yes, the Detroit-based automaker does. Priced at $545, the spray-on bedliner (CGN) is equipped as standard on AT4, AT4X, Denali and Denali Ultimate, which is why the slightly more affordable drop-in bedliner isn’t on offer for these models.

Notably, the X31 Off-Road Protection Package actually includes the spray-in bedliner anyways.

As a reminder, the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 is powered by a number of engines, including the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline TurboMax engine, rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, rated at 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, and the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine, rated at 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque.

Under the skin, the Sierra 1500 rides on the GM T1 platform. Production of the 2024 model year kicked off on July 17th, 2023 at the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana and GM Silao plant in Mexico.

  • Waste of money that will assuredly result in scuffed-off paint and eventual rust. Add a few dollars to it and get a sprayed-in bedliner instead or save a few bucks and do it yourself.

    • Let alone, that it’s surface can be extremely slick in the winter or when it’s wet. I will take the spray on liner any day and it actually protects the bed.

  • I'm going to guess this is a reactive response to the CGN spray in bedliner constantly being constrained all of the time and the trucks having to be built without the factory sprayed in liner

  • READ the WARRANTY! The "drop-in" bed-liner voids the bed corrosion portion of the factory warranty. I found out the hard way after being lied to by a sleezy dealer.

  • Technically, the only thing "new" about this bedliner is the fact that its now available as an LPO option.

Its the same drop in plastic liner they've had available since the start of T1 production late 2018 that has been available as a dealer installed and ordered accessory option. We've been buying them for 4 years now for T1 as needed.

GM has always offered a plastic drop in for every generation since at least GMT-800 back in 1999.

  • 02 Silverado with drop in bed liner and box is like new, no dents, no rust and paint is fine. I prefer the drop in liner and it has carried many loads of fire wood and it’s super easy to hose or sweep out.

  • I have a diamond plate custom made bed liner and tailgate. 2 port holes on either side behind cab for drainage. Cost was 755$ plus 360$ labor, this was in 2014. Yeah 10 years ago but considering my GMC Sierra is a 1995 2door with 4 on floor, running perfect with 429,000+. No rust- dents or scratches. I had a spray on before that and a drop-in when new, but can say this liner will outlast truck or at least outlast me.
