Officially unveiled back in October 2022, the 2024 Chevy Trax is set to introduce an all-new generation of the Bow Tie brand’s entry-level crossover. While GM Authority recently covered when production would roughly begin, we’ve now learned the exact start of production date.
Sources close to the matter tell us that the start of regular production (SORP) of the next-gen Chevy Trax is currently scheduled for February 13th, 2023. This means that the first units will begin to arrive on dealership lots in Spring 2023.
For those who may be unaware, the 2024 Chevy Trax is a complete overhaul over the first-generation model. This includes an all-new exterior, with proportions now longer, lower and wider than the preceding model. Up front is a new set of dual-tier headlights, with the squinty top row serving as the Daytime Running Lights (DRLs), while the actual headlamps are located just below. The profile of the 2024 Trax is designed to mimic that of the 2019 and newer Chevy Blazer, which makes gives it a sleek and modern look.
Moving to the interior, the 2024 Trax offers an extra three inches of rear legroom and a 12 percent increase in cargo room over the first-gen model. On top of that, the all-new Trax is available with a slew of safety features, including multiple advanced safety and driver awareness technologies via Chevy Safety Assist. Additionally, Active Noise Cancelation and Adaptive Cruise Control is available on most trims, while lower trims feature an eight-inch diagonal infotainment screen and LT, 2RS and Activ trims get an 11-inch screen.
In regards to powertrain, the 2024 Trax features turbocharged 1.2L I3 LIH gasoline engine, rated at 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. This powerplant pairs with the GM six-speed automatic transmission, feeding the front wheels exclusively.
Under the skin, the 2024 Trax rides on the GM VSS-F vehicle set.

No It's wrong. According to GM Changwon plant employee, Chevy Trax has already producing.
GEM, those are most likely (Pilot Vehicles), they are not sold to the public, they are used to learn the best build process. Taken apart and built again tested, tested again over and over again.
You've got a point there too, Al. But GM expect many americans wanted trax, so GM Korea makes trax stock early in changwon too. They already packed a lot of cars in parking lot.

Lol, it's already a direct competitor of the Trailblazer, which does still offer FWD. They are both weak offerings in the entry level subcompact plus class... They only difference is the trailblazer is FWD CVT and the Trax is FWD 6spd.. other than that I'm sure they are almost identical. These are such poorly executed, phoned in offerings by gm. It's no surprise they continue to lose market in these segments.

AWD in most cases is unnecessary for road driving. Most AWD cars are using the front wheels only 99% of the time, it only uses the rear wheels when the front wheels lose traction. Getting good winter tires is perfectly okay for most people. RWD platform cars with AWD like BMW's/Cadillacs can be good for racing in wet conditions, but if you can afford that you probably have better options than the Chevy Trax (which is aimed to be an affordable low price option).
But if the demand is there, I wouldn't be surprised if they release an AWD option later on. AWD was available on the previous gen Trax.
iLuvGM: What you said made me think back to when I was chief of police in a smaller town in the mid-west where we got lots of snow. Being the chief, I had a take-home patrol car (1993 Ford Crown Vic). Those things were great patrol cars, but not that good in the snow. To make matters worse, this one didn't have the traction control either. Where I lived was out in the hills and getting to/from work was all hills and turns. Although the car had good all season tires, I ordered a set of Blizzak snow tires for all 4 corners. That along with the extra weight (police gear, etc) in the trunk, that thing became unstoppable. The only thing that would stop me was when the snow was too deep and the car would lose grip.
Yea exactly, a set of Blizzaks will do it. Most people really don’t need AWD. I drive RWD all winter long in snow/ice with a set of Blizzaks, no issue at all.
Every brand needs entry level vehicles reasonably out fitted at a affordable price. Imo, this is a home run for GM. If it proves to be a reliable vehicle it should do well. Nice looking vehicle.

Will GM be able to produce these in enough quantities so they are available at dealer lots? If GM promotes the Trax properly, which sadly is not a given with this company nowadays, I am not so sure the supply will be able to satisfy demand as the Trax is a excellent value for a crossover.
Not sure why some are complaining about the little 3 banger. I can't speak for the 1.2L but I can for the 1.3L. It does just fine in the 2023 Trail Blazer. It's definitely not a rocket but it's sufficient for what it is and it does get decent fuel mileage. I guess a word best suited for its performance would be peppy.
I've driven the 3 cylinder Buick Encore GX as a rental several times. I'm not complaining about the performance. I'm just disappointed that this little engine only gets "decent fuel mileage" @ 29/32. C'mon, the bigger Chevy Equinox with the 1.5T gets 26/31.
It has pretty good city mpg at 29 but it only has 31 on the highway. Most 4 cylinder turbo cars can get 31 on the highway like the base Camaro or Mustang... and those have around the same power as V8's from the 70's-90's with 0-60 in the 5s range.
It's almost like a 3 cylinder motor was engineered in China and made in Mexico; developled with profits as the number one concern. Performance and quality are always a distant second with Mary Barra at the helm.

Test drove an 1.3t AWD trailblazer when they first got on the local lots... It's not a good drivetrain. The 9spd is constantly hunting for gears with the lack luster 1.3t. was a genuine displeasure to drive compared to a Mazda Cx-30.
God. You and your freeking Mazda stuff. Just go work at a Mazda store if you think they are so good. They're not. And don't blame the 1.3L engine for the stupid 9 speeds lacking. I had two separate XT4's as loaners, and both with the 2.0L and 9 speed. That trans is not pleasant IMO.
BTW, I've put a lot of miles on CX30's. I would never buy one and we've had numerous customers sell them back or trade them out because they didn't like them. I had one lady who called me for a week crying because she hated her CX30 that much.

No AWD? Well it looks like GM will be loosing sales in the Northern areas of the country. We are leasing a 2022 Encore and living close to Lake Michigan we need AWD. So GM in your wisdom, we will have to go to a different manufacture for our next vehicle in 2025.
Test drive a Mazda, Kia Seltos, or VW Taos. I haven't test driven a Taos, but the other two manufacturers are far superior to gm in the subcompact plus segment, for a comparable price.
The Trailblazer and Encore GX both offer AWD and are built on the same platform as the new Trax
Ooohhh a Koreatrax with a 3 cylinder! And they are not crossovers anymore, there are no more sedans to crossover from. The 1.5L turbo engine production for the Malibu ends in a month or so, no more sedans.
Gm is planning on continuing the ICE Malibu for one more production cycle, I'm excited to see if they can actually make a competitive vehicle in the B/C segment again. It's been almost a decade at this point.
