2022 Chevy Tahoe And Suburban Get New 10-Speed Automatic Transmission

The 2022 Chevy Tahoe and 2022 Chevy Suburban full-size SUVs have received a new 10-speed automatic transmission, GM Authority can confirm.

When equipped with either the 5.3L L84 V8 or 6.2L L87 V8 gasoline engines, the 2022 Chevy Tahoe and Suburban will feature a new version of GM’s 10-speed automatic with controlled overdrive and a Traction Select System with specific tow/haul settings. This transmission is tagged with RPO code MHS and will be standard equipment in all Tahoe and Suburban models with the 5.3L V8 and 6.2L V8.

The older GM 10-speed automatic transmission used in the 2021 model-year Chevy Tahoe and Suburban was tagged with RPO code MQC. This version of the 10-speed will continue to be paired with the Duramax turbo-diesel 3.0L I6 LM2 engine in the SUVs.

GM Authority reached out to General Motors for more information on this new 10-speed transmission, as it carries the exact same description as the outgoing 10-speed. Chevrolet Communications representative Catherine Scales said this version of the transmission “allows our manufacturing and dealer teams to more easily align the specific calibration needed for the transmission and can enable OTA updates in the future.”

The ability to receive over-the-air updates is important, as this will allow GM to remotely improve, modify, adjust or patch the software that controls the transmission. Most of GM’s newest products run the automaker’s Vehicle Intelligence Platform/Global B architectures, which enable OTA updates for the infotainment system, chassis/powertrain/drivetrain and other important components.

GM Authority went over the changes applied to the 2022 Chevy Tahoe, as well as the 2022 Chevy Suburban, in two separate articles published earlier this month. Some of the more noteworthy changes include the addition of three new exterior colors (Auburn Metallic, Dark Ash Gray Metallic and Evergreen Gray Metallic), as well as the expanded availability of the 6.2L L87 V8 gasoline EcoTec3 engine, which is now available on both RST and Z71 models via the new Sport Performance Package and Off-Road Performance Package.

The 2022 Chevy Tahoe and Suburban are produced at the GM Arlington Assembly plant in Texas.
