2022 Chevy Tahoe: Here’s What’s New And Different
19Sponsored Links
The 2022 Chevy Tahoe represents the second model year of the fifth generation full-size SUV, which was all-new for 2021 (see 2021 Chevy Tahoe details). Despite only being in its second model year of the current generation, the Tahoe sees a broad range of changes and updates for the 2022 model year.
For the uninitiated, the Chevrolet Tahoe is shorter variant of the Chevrolet Suburban, with the former being roughly 15 inches shorter than the latter. In fact, the Suburban receives the same changes as the Tahoe.
Model Line
The 2022 Chevy Tahoe model line remains unchanged from the 2021 model year, and is as follows:
- Commercial (1FL)
- LS
- LT
- RST
- Z71
- Premier
- High Country
Notably, the RST, Z71, and High Country trim levels were introduced for the 2021 model year for the first time on the Tahoe.
Exterior
On the outside, the 2022 Chevy Tahoe sees the deletion of two exterior colors and the addition of three new hues.
Deleted colors:
The full-size SUV also replaces five existing wheel sets with five new, LPO-level (dealer-installed) wheel sets:
Deleted wheels:
- 22-inch 6-spoke Midnight Silver machine-faced aluminum wheels with Chrome inserts (SEW)
- 22-inch Black Gloss wheels with Chrome inserts (SHD)
- 22-inch Bright Chrome wheels (SF0)
- 22-inch Carbon Flash Metallic wheels (SEZ)
- 22-inch Multi-spoke Bright polished wheels (SES)
- LPO-level item
New wheels:
- 20-inch Multi-spoke Gloss Black wheels (SEM)
- 22-inch Black wheels with selective machining (SRL)
- 22-inch Multi-spoke Chrome wheels (SSI)
- 22-inch Multi-split spoke Chrome wheels (SSW)
- 22-inch Multi-spoke Gloss Black wheels (SRV)
Interior
Inside, the 2022 Chevy Tahoe sees quite a few changes and updates. For starters, Rear Park Assist, which was standard on all models except for Premier and High Country, has been deleted. To note, Premier and High Country models had the more advanced Front and Rear Park Assist as standard for the 2021 model year, and the feature was not available on trims lower than Premier and High Country. For the 2022 model year, Front and Rear Park Assist becomes standard on all trim levels.
Meanwhile, Reverse Automatic Braking has been added as a new feature and is available on Premier and High Country models. For Premier models, the system requires Adaptive Cruise Control and the Enhanced Display and Alert Package, which also includes:
- HD Surround Vision
- Head-Up Display
- Rear Camera Mirror
- Rear Camera Mirror Washer
- Rear Pedestrian Alert
High Country models also require Adaptive Cruise Control when equipped with Reverse Automatic Braking.
A few changes take place to the infotainment systems, with the 2022 Tahoe deleting the 10.2-inch Chevrolet Infotainment 3 Plus system and 10.2-inch Chevrolet Infotainment 3 Premium system with connected Navigation. Both have been replaced by a new 10.2-inch diagonal Chevrolet Infotainment 3 Premium system with Google built-in. The new system is standard on LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country models. Meanwhile, the base 8-inch diagonal Chevrolet Infotainment 3 system remains standard on Commercial while becoming standard on LS, which previously shipped as standard with the 10.2-inch Chevrolet Infotainment 3 Plus system.

There’s also changes to the Driver Information Center (DIC): for starters, the base 4.2-inch unit is standard only on Commercial and LS models for the 2022 model year, compared to being standard on on Commercial, LS, LT, RST and Z71 trims for the 2021 model year. In addition, the 8-inch diagonal multi-color enhanced Driver Information Center is replaced by a 12-inch diagonal multi-color enhanced Driver Information Center. This new 12-inch unit includes analog speedometer and tachometer gauges, so it’s not completely digital. No matter, it’s standard on LT, RST, Z71, Premier and High Country models.

The HD Radio feature has been deleted, continuing GM’s trend for deleting the feature. Additionally, SD Card Reader located within the front center console has been deleted. The two USB data ports (one USB-A and another USB-C) – which were part of the SD Card Reader hub – remain as standard on all models and trims. In fact, they’re now standard on the Commercial trim level, which previously offered the ports as an option.
The front center seat (20 percent seat) delete option on FL models. Consequently, the shipped loose parts option – which was included and only available with the front center seat delete – are also deleted. Notably, the latter was included and only available with the aforementioned seat delete. Meanwhile, a Rear Fold Flat Cargo Organizer has been added as a dealer-installed option.
The Enhanced Trailer View feature is also new for the 2022 Chevy Tahoe. It’s available on Premier and High Country models and includes:
- Trailer Camera Provisions
- Trailering Assist Guidelines
- Auxiliary Trailer Camera
For Premier models, Enhanced Trailer View requires Trailer Tire Pressure Monitor Sensors, Enhanced Display and Alert Package, and the Max Trailering Package (see Packages section below for package content).
The Illumination Package is added as a new dealer-installed item for the 2022 model year. It’s available on LT, RST, Z71, Premier and High Country models, and includes:
- Illuminated mirror Chevrolet emblem (a mirror puddle light that projects the Chevy logo)
- Illuminated front door sill plates
- Illuminated liftgate sill plate
Other new additions to the interior include:
- Smart Trailer Integration Indicator
- Included and only available via the Advanced Trailering Package on LT, RST, Z71, Premier and High Country models
- Buckle To Drive
- Standard on all models
- Sport Pedal Cover Kit (LPO-level item)
- Available on all models
- Keyless Entry Keypad (LPO-level item)
- Only available on Commercial models
Mechanical
The 2022 Chevy Tahoe continues to offer three engine choices – two gasoline V8s and one turbo-diesel six:
- 5.3L L84 V8 (Gasoline) – Features variable valve-timing and direct injection, and produces an SAE-certified 355 horsepower / 265 kilowatts @ 5600 RPM with 383 pound-feet / 519 newton meters of torque @ 4100 RPM.
- 6.2L L87 V8 (Gasoline) – Features variable valve-timing and direct injection, and produces an SAE-certified 420 horsepower / 313 kilowatts @ 5600 RPM with 460 pound-feet / 623 newton meters of torque @ 4100 RPM.
- 3.0L Duramax LM2 I6 (Diesel) – Features dual-overhead cams and direct injection, and produces 277 horsepower / 207 kilowatts @ 3750 RPM with 460 pound-feet / 623 newton meters of torque @ 1500 RPM.
However, the 2022 Tahoe sees revised availability of the 6.2L L87 V8 engine now available on RST and Z71 models via the Sport Performance Package and Off-Road Performance Package.

Additionally, the engine block heater becomes available with the 5.3L L84 V8 engine and 6.2L L87 V8 engine on all equipment groups, except for Z71 models. For the 2021 model year, this feature was only available in conjunction with the 3.0L LM2 I6 Turbo-Diesel Duramax engine.
There’s also a slight revision to transmission availability, in that a new 10-speed automatic unit has been added with RPO code MHS. This new transmission is standard on models equipped with either of the V8 engines. Meanwhile, the MQC-coded transmission – which was the only unit offered for the 2021 model year – is now paired exclusively with the Duramax diesel engine.
The 2022 model year also sees the addition of GM’s electronic limited-slip differential (eLSD) as an exclusive feature for Z71 models equipped with the new Off-Road Capability Package, which also includes Magnetic Ride Control and Air Ride Adaptive suspension. Notably, the eLSD was previously unavailable on Chevy’s full-size SUVs, meaning customers who wanted the feature had to opt for the GMC Yukon AT4.
Meanwhile, the Advanced Trailering Package now includes Smart Trailer Integration Indicator, which replaces the Advanced Trailering System. The package also includes Hitch Guidance with Hitch View and a Trailer brake controller. Additionally, the Hitch Guidance with Hitchview feature is no longer included with the Advanced Trailering Package on LS models.

2022 Chevy Tahoe Availability
The 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe is assembled by GM USA at the GM Arlington plant in Arlington, Texas, USA. Both the 2022 Chevy Tahoe and its extended-length sibling, the 2022 Chevy Suburban, went into production on October 4th, 2021, as previously reported by GM Authority. As such, the full-size SUV is readily available at dealerships.
Looking ahead, the Tahoe is expected to see minor changes and updates for the 2023 model year. However, there is a possibility that an all-new, high-performance variant may enter the market – perhaps as a Tahoe SS – and it may utilize the supercharged 6.2L LT4 V8 engine.

Here in the hot ME , there is a clicking sound from engines
remind me of lifters sound with wrong oil velocity or following heavy long term use on AFM 2009-14 models
decrease the weight , average weight is over 6000 pounds, this is class-leading , a lot of efforts to brake, accelerate, gas and a lot to replace in a short period, tires , brake pad, control arms pushings due to that massive weight.
very confusing personality with an offering of front offroading bumpers while the rear is very low , I mean all FWD CUVs have much better clearance than your offroading claiming application.
it’s not about colors and wheels 🙁
Khalid: You want that vehicle weight for maximum safety for you and your family. Try the diesel for low end torque and satisfying acceleration. As to your comments to brake wear, advise driving like a trucker. Minimize approach speeds to stoplights and stop signs like truckers do. Let er drift to a slow speed and then feather apply brakes. Too many motorists speed to stops and then romp on the brakes.
Tahoe is a great vehicle. One of GM’s best next to the Suburban.
I’m fine with everything tahoe is all about except that low dangling rear axle!!??
Wouldn’t gm have come up with better design than that?
I mean look at least to how Ford has managed to make better looking from the outside and spacious from the inside in terms of third seat bench.
And the 6.2 is going bye bye.
The days are numbered for that pollution mill.
Pretty informative article. I would like to share that the Z71 package was offered in the 2000’s. One of my first Tahoe’s was a 2004 Z71. I must say that I’m a big fan of the Tahoe, from the Z71 to the 2015 and half LTZ to my current 2021 Tahoe Premier which I traded my 2017 Escalade in on.
I like the new platform. However, as with any new platform there will be issues some of which should have been address per production and some which will not be found until real world release. Cargo and passenger space is unquestionably larger than the out going platform. Being a car guy I could really write a detail article since owning my 2021 Premier for a little over a year.
Still can’t order a 2 row Tahoe. as a overlander car camper we have no need for a 3rd row,if it was gone have more payload ?more towing? .towing went down with the 3.23 axle ratio . Old g80 solid rear axle had a 3.42. Why carry around a 3 rd row that will never be used ? Not sure if the 3rd row was gone would I get a under floor trunk ? Good place to stash stuff drone camera Mac book still not sure independent rear axle can it carry a heavy payload?
They want to advertise but not build! Had Z71 6.2 off road package ordered since 10/06/21. This is my 3rd order since 08/02/21 to order a Z71 off road. Why advertise or even offer if they are not going to build!
What about the TAHOE SS ?
Haven’t herd anything in a long time…
Thanks, don
One of GM’s winners and best vehicles. Highly recommend the 3.0 diesel and High Country package. A ride built for larger Americans seeking wiggle room comfort, ride comfort and most important maximum safety. Just look at how many fire chiefs and police chiefs have Tahoes.
The only, if not main upgrade the Chevy Tahoe/Suburban needs other than a factory supercharged 6.2 liter L87(or 5.3 liter L84) to put its rivals on “grimacing to eye rolling” notice. Two more inches for its center dash infotainment screen and then it will be a truly competitive. 12.2(in) instead of decently on par 10.2..
When I am comparing vehicles, screen size is pretty close the the bottom of the list of requirements.
Still something awkward looking about this completely revised model. Top heavy, not beefy, too long like a suburban, not much style. Oversized, skinny somewhat goofy looking. Look’s like an expedition. And I am the biggest Tahoe fan. I am waiting for the change aesthetic change that will make me want to buy one again. I’ve had nothing but tahoes. This year I must pass. Of course this is only my opinion, I was just disappointed. Yes the Z71 and the rst are nicer than the others, but I’m still not thrilled! Fingers crossed for the future tahoes.
We traded in our 2009 Tahoe LTZ for our new 2022 Tahoe RST. OMG, we absolutely love it. About 1000 miles on it so far. Ride is soooo sweet, nice acceleration, selectable auto mode (very smart wheel control) 4×4, 7800 lbs. towing capable. Bought it for some occasional towing and cross country vacations & some family touring rides. We just got 12″ of snow so I had to take a trip around our relatively level 5 acre property in the virgin powder snow to see what auto mode 4×4 would do. OMG, no 23″ wheel slip and walked right through smoothly around. Leveled snow through cause snow was higher in spots. I am a BIG fan now of rear 4×4 independent suspension traction.
Come back in 6 months when your lifters blow up.
Unless you were smart enough to get the Duramax.
Evan: Amen to you on your Duramax comment. GO DURAMAX Diesel. 10X’s better than any gasoline option. DURAMAX much more fuel efficient, safer and much longer engine life. A+ engine.
And The Duramax has the highest towing numbers for the 2022 Silverado.
The 6.2 needs retired as it serves no useful purpose in the trucks except to spew pollution & satisfy peoples insecurities.
For our 2022 Tahoe RST, as for a mild trail off roading, I can see a big target on the rear lower suspension arms for tall rocks. The snow packed in rear lower suspension arms after my deep snow ride but only is a temporary thing. I chose this vehicle cause it does not have the fancy magnetic ride suspension so I will be able to work on suspension down the road myself. Our 2009 Tahoe LST air-ride suspension went out early in our owning it for 10 years. Still pisses me off yet, look up what a replacement air compressor & air shocks costs for it. $$$$$$ Of course we never replaced it so we could not tow heavy anymore cause back end went down too much. We love the ride absolutely good enough for us!
The model and option packages are just too complicated ! How can a dealer figure out what to order and stock?
You order what YOU need, not what they maybe steer you away from. They like to know you are a good local source to spread good word locally. If they don’t work with you for your sale, move on is my advice. You have to work with a good local dealership is my advice and make it known they will seeing your butt for life of it. It helps that we did past G.M.vehicle changes with our dealership and we could now get them to magically contact G.M. factory to our questions about what seperate options could be had with what package. Availability and how the factory will equip is their “war tools” right now and it is sad that it impacts the price demand.
