Malibu Boats has introduced its new 2022 Wakesetter 21 LX, a 21-foot towboat that offers a naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 engine developed in part by GM Marine.
The 2022 Wakesetter 21 LX is available with two engines: the Malibu Monsoon M5Di engine, or the Malibu Monsoon M6Di engine. The Monsoon M5Di is based on a GM 5.3L V8 engine and makes 360 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque, while the M6Di is based on a GM 6.2L V8 and makes 430 horsepower and 460 pound-feet. Both of these engines were co-developed by Malibu Boats and GM Marine with boat-specific applications in mind.
It’s worth noting that other, higher-end offerings from Malibu Boats are available with a supercharged 6.2L LT4 V8, which produces 607 horsepower and 606 pound-feet of torque, however the Wakesetter 21 LX is an entry-level offering in the Wakesetter model lineup and thus only offers the M5Di and M6Di. Like the naturally aspirated motors, the marine version of the 6.2L LT4 V8 was engineered by Malibu Boats and GM Marine, was first deployed in certain Malibu Boats models for the 2020 model year and serves as the range-topping engine option across its product portfolio. The LT4 is a road car engine that was first offered in the C7 Corvette Z06 and remains the go-to powerplant for the Chevy Camaro ZL1 and the 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing.
Apart from the engine, the Wakesetter 21 LX has a large 21-foot hull capable of producing a pro-level wake or wave. The standard “G5” tower can also hang board racks and speakers, while an available folding TXi tower is available for owners who want to store the boat in their garage. A wraparound lounge provides seating for 12 and is joined by other comforts like Malibu Soft Grip flooring, eight-inch speakers, and cupholders.
The 2022 Wakesetter 21 LX is available to order now. Check out the video embedded below to learn more about Malibu Boats and GM’s relationship with the Loudon, Tennessee-based company. company.

Great. The only way I can get a GM gas engine is to buy a dang boat.
Malibu is several years behind marine engine suppliers Kem and Marine Power who have been using the GM 5.3/6.2DI and LT4 motors for several years now. They also offer the naturally aspirated 500HP LSX as an option.Enjoy it while we can...once the automotive world drops these engine the supply for boats will dry up;Mercruiser has recognized this and is now building their own engines from the ground up.
@Walt, not sure if you were being funny, but GM Performance Parts sells several crate engines sold from old v8s, LS, and LT, motors ranging from stock to 750hp including hardware for swaps. They also sell packages that include engines and transmissions.
They also provide GM dealers in your area that will perform the installation for you if you want to swap with OEM or a performance package. I don't see GM shutting down a money supply chain anything time soon.
Not including the hundreds of custom shops that will build 1000hp plus packages.
I was thinking more about having a OEM engine in a vehicle that originally came with the vehicle from new.
And the really nifty part: it all has a warranty.
I hope they don’t come with GMs cyl deactivation..
GM makes a great engine but they are destroying there reputation with the failure 1st and 2nd gen cyl deactivation …….
A V8 Malibu?, yes.....
99% of Malibu's motors are v8
Unfortunately they do if you buy an OEM replacement. Unless you have someone retune to deactivate it. There are people and shops that can deactivate the system on your car w/o changing the motor. Also, some companies sell a plug n play device that connects into the ecm connector under the dash that deactivates the cylinder shut down.
None of the modified crates come with cylinder deactivation.
Too bad that the 3.0 Diesel which is on a strange bizarre unexplained hold for the next four months ??? , has not been configured for a marine application for this 21' watercraft, or other watercraft.
In board marine diesels are much safer and last longer than gasoline marine engines. With gasoline marine engines make sure your engine compartment ventilation blower fans are working. Also pre vent several minutes before starting a gasoline marine engine.
I believe the 3.0 would make a great inboard
But the GM 6.2 makes double the HP. And in these boats get up and go is what it’s about.
GM claims the 3.0 diesel is waiting for parts before they can continue to build them.
I think they stopped production because they are having starting issues. Called long crank no start.
A problem with crank position sensor…..
These are competition ski and wakeboarding boats. You would never want a diesel in one, no matter how" clean" they are. They'll stink, and you don't want to smell that when waterskiing or wakeboarding. None of the ski boats have Everett used a diesel yet, and the only way they are going away from gas, is to electric once battery tech gets better.
They only want sailboats. Bernie Sanders has a house on Lake Champlain. Bet he has a power boat.
Bernie Sanders has several ICE vehicles. You would expect him to drive a Prius. Not so.

Stupid Hicks just HAVE show off how about incredibly dumb and ignorant they are by bringing Biden into a conversation about boats ..... Probably on horse dewormers instead of the vaccine undoubtedly, for starters.
plugs the moron biden can't wipe his own ass
Biden approves of all American GM electrics unless they are made by Tesla in a non-union shop.
