Last month, we reported on an officially licensed Batmobile that is available to purchase by invitation only from Wayne Enterprises. It’s a replica of Batman’s Tumbler from the Dark Knight film trilogy and was offered at a price of $2.99 million. Only ten are being built, and the HBO series Hard Knocks has revealed one of the owners.
“Have I told you I bought a Batmobile?” Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow casually asks teammates Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase during a practice. “I don’t get it for like a year, but I bought it.” From there, the Bengals joked about getting a Batman suit and wearing it to games and the club.

According to ESPN, the Batmobile Burrow is referring to is the official Wayne Enterprises model, which got our attention with its GM powerplant. Although not street legal, the expensive and official Batmobile is a fully functional car powered by a 6.2L V8 LS3, which originally saw duty in the C6 Corvette, Chevy SS, and Chevy Camaro SS.
Joe Burrow is also one of the few owners of a Lordstown Endurance electric pickup truck, which was built at the old GM Lordstown plant in Ohio. His Endurance was customized with his number and Bengals team colors painted on the door. Since Lordstown Motors filed bankruptcy less than a year after Endurance production began, Burrow’s electric truck is almost as rare as his Batmobile.
Burrow can afford a $2.99 million car that he can’t drive on the street because he’s the NFL’s second-highest-paid quarterback, with an average annual salary of $55 million. Buying a car with a value of around 5 percent of your annual income is like someone who makes $100k/year buying a $5k car.
The Tumbler is built on a bespoke steel tube frame cradling the aforementioned LS3, rated at 525 horsepower and 486 pound-feet of torque, mated to a 4L85E 4-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. The screen-accurate bodywork is made from a mixture of Kevlar, fiberglass, metal panels, and carbon. However, it’s hardly noticeable that so many different materials are used since they’re all finished in black.

Fools and their money are soon parted.
I don’t know about that. It’s only half the cost of a duct taped banana.
The tumbler is street legal in Gotham city and police commissioner James Gordon is fine with that. So, the next time you see the bat signal in the sky expect the tumbler to be driving the streets to protect the citizens of Gotham City. Holy LS3 Batman this the best Batmobile yet.
Good to know joe won’t join the majority of NFL players who are broke within 5 years of leaving the NFL. Way to invest your money wisely there joe.
