How To Use Lane Keep Assist In The 2020 Buick Encore GX: Video

The 2020 Buick Encore GX comes standard with a wide range of active safety features that owners will definitely want to take advantage of. Forward Collision Alert and Automatic Emergency Braking can save lives, after all, but we understand if some of the lingo used to refer to these active safety technologies leaves drivers feeling confused.

Thankfully most of these active safety systems are pretty passive and require the driver to do nothing at all. Take the Lane Keep Assist technology that comes standard in the 2020 Buick Encore GX, for example. To turn this technology on, all the driver has to do is hit the button located just in front of the gear select lever in the center console. The button has a photo of a vehicle driving between two dotted lane markers and has an orange LED that will light up when the Lane Keep Assist is turned on.

What does this technology do, exactly? Lane Keep Assist will track where the vehicle is positioned within its lane and make minor adjustments to the steering to ensure the vehicle’s trajectory stays within the lane. This isn’t a highway drive assist feature like Super Cruise or some other related systems, it is worth noting. The driver will still have to steer the vehicle with this system on and it cannot take over the function of steering entirely. This is simply a safety net for those times when drivers lose focus and begin to drift out of their lane slightly.

General Motors put together a video providing a more detailed explanation of how to activate Lane Keep Assist in the 2020 Buick Encore GX, what the technology is capable of and what its limitations are. Those who still have questions about this active safety tech and how to take advantage of it can check it out embedded below.
