Earlier this year, Chevrolet quietly announced it bring the Silverado High Desert to production after debuting the concept at the SEMA Show. However, we’ve seen little and not heard much on how customers can get their hands on the Silverado High Desert, which channels the loved Avalanche for its bed storage solutions.
PickupTrucks.com has reported in order to enjoy the bed conversion, it must be pre-ordered through a Chevrolet dealership. Furthermore, it also requires assembly, likely done by your local dealership as well. The functionality of the bed arrives in more than a dozen pieces before it can be fully enjoyed.
Chevrolet also showed another show truck variant of the High Desert at this year’s 2016 SEMA Show, which previewed an even more upscale variant with the bed’s versatile storage capabilities. From the sound of this report, it seems dealers won’t be stocking many if at all.

Figures. The only thing even tempting me to sell my Black Diamond LTZ for a new Silverado has been this option on a 6.2. Ill keep my flawless Avy until GM pulls its head out of its azz. Might as well just order the kit off ebay in a couple years for a used 17 if youre interested. Still aint an Avalanche...
I Agree. A Black Diamond you say? I'm currently on the look out for a black or pearl white Black Diamon Avy. In my searches I've noticed they all seem to be very well maintained no matter the milage.
If I was a betting man, I'd say you're going to be driving that Avy a LONG time. GM had the perfect answer for the next evolution of the fullsize truck in the Avy. In fact, they perfected it with the GMT 900 vesrsion. But they chose to go the cheaper and less innovative way with the short bed crew cab.

I must say I like the looks of it. I shared this conversion before it ever hit SEMA. In thought was supposed to offer some other small changes in the front. In sense now I believe it a part to help keep local dealers with work. Another case of more plastic more cost. Order on fellas I'll admire from a distance.
What is the point of those little corners on the bed? I had an Avy, and I assumed they were part of the essential frame since it was essentually an SUV with an open back... however on this car, it seems like no purpose but looks?
And at looks it detracts from performance?

OMG I am so in love with this new Silverado High Desert! I had to trade in my 2004 Sport Red 4x4 Avalanche 1500 and have been so disappointed with the Traverse (stupid minivan replacement!) that I replaced it with almost a year ago. I was the one and only owner, had it for 12 years and 220,000 wonderful miles! It still looked brand new the day I traded it in. Never had any major issues with it and I used the mid-gate conversion quite often. One dealership told me that owners were complaining that they had leak issues with the mid-gate and that's why they stopped making it. The Sport Red one above looks almost identical to mine, I miss it so much!

How long did it take for you to get the truck? Chevrolet dealer said we had to be approved first. We order it & put a 1000.00 down.
A dealer told me they will have to order it ...take about 6-8 weeks ?
Harshness should be directed at the salesman and dealership, not the car itself. Was told it was an SUV so I expected it to drive more like an SUV than a minivan.
Does any dealer have a High Country High Desert truck ?
No they dont ...(none of the dealers I contacted does not have any high country deserts in stock ) why ?
They do have them now, at least in Florida, I test drove one on Memorial Day weekend, they are really nice, but the price was $65,000.
I have never liked the Avalanche look. I do however like that organizer. Does anyone know if you can get that organizer without that stupid roll bar thing on the front?
