We Render A Modern-Day Cadillac DeVille

With a history spanning nearly half a century and eight generations, the Cadillac DeVille remains an iconic nameplate for Caddy enthusiasts, offering status, style, and unquestionable road presence. Although Cadillac retired the DeVille in 2005, we can’t help but think what a modern version might look like. Now, we’re serving up exactly that with the following exclusive GM Authority rendering.

Before we get into it, we should mention that, for now at least, there’s no indication that GM will actually build a modern Cadillac DeVille. Rather, we created this rendering just for fun to see what such a thing might look like.

That covered, let’s jump right in. First of all, we based our modern Cadillac DeVille rendering on the Cadillac Ciel concept, which was unveiled in 2011 at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Although the Ciel was a four-seat convertible, there should be little doubt that the design would look good as a four-door sedan as well, because, in our humble opinion, this modern Cadillac DeVille rendering is an absolutely gorgeous machine.

Although the rendering sports styling that’s a generation old at this point, the lines still feel timeless, with a sleek, three-box layout that does the DeVille nameplate justice. Long, vertical lighting elements are used front and back, while the black paint and polished trim exude elegance. Also note the old-school wreathed Cadillac badges.

Beyond the jaw-dropping looks, we’d imagine this modern DeVille riding on the GM Omega platform, the same underpinnings as the Cadillac CT6, while CT6-V’s twin-turbocharged 4.2L V8 LTA Blackwing engine would provide the motivation.

As for positioning in the Cadillac hierarchy, we could see this thing slotting in above the Cadillac CT6, a spot originally intended for the production variant of the Cadillac Escala concept unveiled in 2016 at the Pebble Beach Consours d’Elegance. Although GM approved a production version of the Escala in 2018, such a vehicle never actually materialized. Check out our previous coverage on the subject for more information on why the Escala never reached production.

All in all, we’d love to see something like this modern Cadillac DeVille spring off our screens and into real life. Let us know what you think, and remember to subscribe to GM Authority for more Cadillac DeVille news, Cadillac news, and around-the-clock GM news coverage.

  • MUCH better than the crapola being shovelled out of the real Cadillac. But it'll never happen.

    • The GM Authority rendition of a modernized Cadillac DeVille is a GOOD LOOKING car. And with Blacking motivation it ought to perform well. I wouldn't be able to afford one but I think those that could would be very interested if Cadillac brought something like this to market ...

      • It's a good thing "Cadillac " isn't asking for opinions. It's down right "PLANE JANE UGLY!" Fortunately, there won't be other "cars" to complete with. It looks like just another wind tunnel, computer assisted "BLOB" on 4 wheels. Where's the " Distinctive" styling Cadillac used to have, up till the late "80's. Are they a distinctive luxury car? Or over blown "sports " car, with a repeat of the old "Corvette", "Rivera" rear window, trunk?

  • Front looks great, but it definitely needs a bigger trunk. The DeVille always had room for a couple of bodies and a shovel. :-)

    • Hahah even bigger? The one on there now looks like it’s at least 3 feet long just on deck lid alone.

  • Quit giving us hope in beautiful styled cars like this when gm has no plans for us than trucks.

  • You guys are better designers than the Cadillac group, must likely is the upper management that don't allow the designers the freedom to create, no wonder they are building the CT6 in China and not here

  • Very nice exterior. It's been a while since any Caddy's interior did justice to the marque. That's an area they seem to have forgotten how to execute.

  • That's one of the first mock ups that you've done that I really like. A little smaller rims with a little more tire sidewall and send it to Mary for the approval! haha.

  • Good looking car. The turbo V6 would be a nice base motor for the car. It would be nice to see a V8 of some description available. If they wanted to harken back to classic days, perhaps a 429 ci LS or LT.

    • This is beautiful. Cadillac desperately needs a car like this.
The anger at Cadillac in my circles, is enormous.
      Loyalists feel abandoned, and insulted.
I see comments all over the internet , dismayed by Cadillacs choices.
Ever see how uninterested people are in the CT4& 5 ?
      ( those alphanumeric names ! (ugh )...
I am glad they sell something, but not for people into CADILLACS traditionally.
I try to like the " 5" but just not something to be passionate about.
      Forget the " 4 ".
Nobody understands the decisions at GM , or any US Automobile Manufacturer.

      • That's the result of bean-counters forcing you into bankruptcy, and then accepting government assistance tied to government-directed management. Remember the old saying, "as goes GM, so goes the country." We can only hope that it doesn't still hold true. In 1958, just out of High School, I was looking at a new Cadillac and thought "I'll have one of the one day. I finally bought a new Cadillac XT6 last year. I'm quite pleased with the car, but I don't love it with the passion I had for Cadillac while looking at that '58. The styling studies showing up here may likely never see the light of day, but they serve to let people (including the Cadillac people) know there is a yearning for a return to the Cadillac mystique of past years. A $350k car won't bring that back, but follow-through on some of these design studies might.

  • does the Omega platform have any chance of existing in a US market product? Or is it solely for the Chinese CT6??
