Buick Encore GX Park Assist Retrofits Under Way

Certain 2022 and 2023 Buick Encore GX units built without a functional Rear Park Assist feature (RPO code UD7) are now receiving retrofits activating the feature as GM extends Customer Satisfaction Program N222375791 to cover more models.

Per the service bulletin, the 2022 Buick Encore GX and 2023 Buick Encore GX crossovers were produced without the Rear Park Assist they should have been equipped with due to the industry-wide semiconductor shortage that followed COVID-19.

Rear park assist on the 2022 Buick Encore GX was normally available on the Preferred trim level as part of the Safety Package (RPO code WPD). Meanwhile, it was available as part of the Advanced Technology Package (RPO code WPA) on the Select and Essence trim levels. Some units built after January 10th, 2022 did not include rear park assist.

As for the 2023 Encore GX, rear park assist was likewise normally available on the Preferred trim level as part of the Safety Package (WPD), and on the Select and Essence trims as an element of the Advanced Technology Package (WPA).

Some 2023 model-year units built from production start until November 29th, 2022 and then from December 26th, 2022 until end of 2023 model-year production were subject to rear park assist constraint. For both model years, units affected by the constraint are indicated as such with RPO code 00Y on the window sticker.

The Buick Encore GX was just one Buick model affected by a constraint on the park assist feature. Notably, the 2022 Buick Envision was built without Rear Park Assist or the Front and Rear Park Assist feature, depending on trim level.

Because of an ongoing lack of microchips, the 2023 Buick Encore GX introduced the nameplate’s fourth model year without available Rear Park Assist from the start of production. Production of the model kicked off at the GM Bupyeong plant in Bupyeong-gu, Incheon, South Korea on April 24th, 2022.

GM has instructed its Buick dealerships to carry out the retrofit on missing or non-functional 2022 and 2023 Buick Encore GX rear parking assist free of charge. The fix involves replacing the Park Assist Control Module with a new, functional module, and might also require reprogramming either the instrument cluster or the active safety control module.

The retrofit is available for affected Buick Encore GX units through August 31st, 2026. All buyers of affected units were notified at the time of purchase about the constraint on the feature along with the future availability of a retrofit. Owners of affected Buick Encore GX crossovers can contact Buick customer service at the telephone number below, referencing the service bulletin number if needed:

    • My 2024 does not. It is on the specs then sub-noted ‘no rear park assist’ and a credit of $165. I asked the dealer about a retrofit and was told I would be notified by mail. I’m not sure that’s true.
