Chase Elliott To Drive No. 17 NASCAR Chevy In Xfinity Series At Pocono

Chase Elliott will drive the No. 17 NASCAR Chevy Camaro at Pocono for the Xfinity Series race on Saturday, July 22nd, 2023. This will be the fifth overall race that the No. 17 Camaro, which is fielded by Hendrick Motorsports (HMS), will compete in during the 2023 Xfinity Series season.

Elliott regularly drives the No. 9 Next Gen Camaro ZL1 in the Cup Series, and will be pulling double duty during the Pocono weekend. Elliott has extensive experience – and subsequent success – in the Xfinity series, having won the overall championship in 2014 and taken home five race wins, the most recent of which was at Daytona in 2016. Elliott’s forthcoming stint in the No. 17 NASCAR Chevy will be his first start in the Xfinity Series in almost two years.

As a reminder, the No. 17 NASCAR Chevy is not a full-time entry in the Xfinity Series, but is fielded for select races and typically driven by HMS Cup Series drivers. The program was started in 2022, marking the return of HMS to the division after 13 years of absence. It is the only HMS entry that currently competes in the Xfinity Series.

William Byron piloted the No. 17 Camaro to a runner-up result at COTA earlier this year, and Kyle Larson took the race car to a third-place finish at Sonoma. Alex Bowman will drive the No. 17 Camaro at Watkins Glen on August 19th, while Larson will compete at Darlington Raceway on September 2nd.

HMS has one Xfinity Series championship trophy in its cabinet, along with 26 individual race wins. Since returning to the division for the 2022 season, the organization has claimed three pole positions, three second-place finishes, five top-five finishes and 125 laps red over six races total.

Elliott is the reigning winner in the Cup Series at Pocono, although it’s worth noting that his victory in 2022 was earned when the top two finishers were disqualified due to illegal parts being found on their race cars.
