Allmendinger Holds Off Fellow NASCAR Chevy To Win COTA 2023 Xfinity: Video

After earning the pole position at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) for the Xfinity Series race on March 25th, 2023, AJ Allmendinger and the No. 10 NASCAR Chevy Camaro proved to be a threat, fending off the No. 17 Camaro of William Byron to win at the road course.
Allmendinger’s No. 10 Camaro led the first 14 laps, along with the final 14 laps, as the No. 17 Camaro of Byron attempted to reel him in. All said and done, Byron couldn’t spur the No. 17 Camaro past Allmendinger’s No. 10 Camaro, resulting in a .853-second delta across the finish line.
“William Byron put his best foot forward, you’ve seen all the Cup races he’s winning,” Allmendinger said of the Cup Series regular, who won at Vegas and Phoenix this year. “I knew it was going to be tough just trying to fight to get back up to the front there. Hate that I had contact with Sheldon [Creed, driver of the No. 2 Camaro], he got under me, I was trying to stay off him, so I hate that happened but so proud of everyone at Kaulig Racing. The Celsius Chevy was really hooked up and with all the damage we had it didn’t hurt the car.”
Meanwhile, Austin Hill, who’s already won three Xfinity Series races in the No. 21 NASCAR Chevy Camaro this year, suffered a mechanical issue and was unable to finish. However, Hill’s No. 21 still remains solidly in the points lead over the No. 98 Ford Mustang of Riley Herbst.
