With the eleventh season of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) just a few short months away, Corvette Racing has officially nailed down its roster of drivers slated to compete in the 2023 racing season.
Corvette Racing has tapped Argentinian driver Nicolas Varrone to fill the final seat in the No. 33 Chevy Corvette C8.R in the GTE Am class. Twenty-two-year-old Varrone has an accomplished racing career under his belt already, nabbing victories in the GET Am division in the European Le Mans series, as well as in the 24H Series race at Barcelona in 2022.
For 2023, Varrone will join Ben Keating and Nicky Catsburg for Corvette Racing’s second full-time season in the FIA WEC, and its first in the GTE Am division.
“I’m really, really happy and over the moon for this opportunity,” Varrone said in a statement. “It always was my dream to be at this level and be on a team with a magnificent brand like Corvette Racing. To be paired with two legendary drivers like Ben [Keating] and Nicky [Catsburg] also is very special.” He went on, “I can’t wait for us to start with this program.”
Varrone successfully piloted the Corvette C8.R racer during a testing session after the 2022 WEC season ended at Bahrain, and again at a private testing session in December 2022.
“I’ve driven other GT cars but the Corvette is one of the best feelings I’ve ever had in a race car,” Varrone said. “It’s a natural and proper racecar, for sure. The confidence it gives in the high-speed corners, the traction and the braking of the car is amazing. It fits me just right. Felt comfortable almost right away. I was expecting it to be like other GT cars I’ve driven, but to me it’s more similar to a prototype. It’s a mega sensation for the drivers. I enjoyed every lap I’ve done so far. I can’t wait for more.”

This kid is one of the young 'hot shoes' out there. The choice might be somewhat surprising (mainly due to his age), but there's a lot of upside & potential here.
Looking forward to seeing C8R Corvettes at The Roar Before the 24 this weekend in Daytona.
And again, in March at the Sebring races. They look great, run fast, and hopefully have a successful 2023 season.
