2022 Chevy Tahoe, Suburban Get New Sport Performance Package

The 2022 Chevy Tahoe and 2022 Chevy Suburban arrive as the second model year for both next-generation nameplates, offering a select number of changes and updates over the preceding 2021 model year vehicles. Among these changes is the addition of a new Sport Performance Package.

The new Sport Performance Package for the 2022 Chevy Tahoe and 2022 Chevy Suburban is tagged with RPO code WBL and is offered as an optional extra on RST trim levels. The package includes the following content (relevant RPO codes listed in parentheses):

To note, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine is rated at 420 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 460 pound-feet of torque at 4,100 rpm. Other engine options for the 2022 Chevy Tahoe and 2022 Chevy Suburban include the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84, rated at 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, and 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax, rated at 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. A 10-speed automatic transmission is standard with all three engine options.

Previously, 2021 Chevy Tahoe and 2021 Chevy Suburban models only offered the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 in conjunction with High Country trim levels. Now, however, the 6.2L V8 L87 is also available on 2022 Chevy Tahoe and 2022 Chevy Suburban RST, Z71, and Premier trim levels.

Customers looking to equip the 6.2L V8 L87 in conjunction with Z71 trim levels must opt into the new Off-Road Performance Package, tagged with RPO code RGN. The Off-Road Performance Package also comes with dual twin polished stainless-steel exhaust tips, and requires the Off-Road Capability Package. For Premier trim levels, the 6.2L V8 L87 is offered as a standalone option with the 2022 Chevy Tahoe and 2022 Chevy Suburban.

The 2022 Chevy Tahoe and 2022 Chevy Suburban also introduce a new 12-inch digital driver information center. Tagged with RPO code UDV, the new 12-inch digital display is standard on LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country trim levels.

  • Besides pushing you to higher trim levels to fatten there pockets never could figure out why they limit the availability of the 6.2 with the high price of it and little it actually costs to produce over a 5.3.

    • Marketing. To make the higher trim levels come across as having "exclusive" premium content and worthy of spending an extra $25k for. Rest assured there's a new premium engine on the horizon if they're allowing us unwashed to share in the features of the mighty Escalade. Either a derivative of the 5.5L 32V that will debut in the C8 Z06 (unlikely, as it must debut in the 'Vette for marketing purposes, and that's at least 14 months out), or a derivative of the legacy LT4 (likely, as its characteristics are more aligned with heavy vehicle applications, and can go now).

      • GM is finally waking up a little. Now release a tune with a little more hp. Bang. Back in first place. Men want power!!!! Why do you think Dodge is doing So we'll, it isn't the reliability. Ford for that matter too.

  • A performance model that does not offer a shifter or paddles. Really GM your loosing a lot of customers. Remember the Edsel... LOL

  • This very likely will be what the Escalade V or blackwing what ever they call it will be, if it happens at all., some bigger tires less crome. I will be TOTALLY blown away if the GM penny pinchers actually put a SC engine in it. Cant wait for the corporate speak BS, The market would not support it, Cadillac owners don't care, bla bla bla....

  • Take “sport” lightly. The straight 6 GLS450 is quicker, seats 6 or 7 depending on seat option (at no additional charge), way better MPG than 6.2, and is similar price when similarly optioned. GM was already behind before they even started…disappointing because GM has the potential to be #1 if they would just listen to their customers and actually take care of them following a purchase.

    • For large body on frame SUVs, GM has been #1 for many years. with a combined 55%-65% market share depending on the year.
