Refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra Elevation Spotted With X31 Off-Road Package

The refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra Elevation was just spotted testing in the real world with the optional X31 off-roading package and several other goodies.

This 2022 GMC Sierra prototype can be identified as an Elevation model by the stance and wheels, riding lower than the GMC Sierra AT4, while also sporting an Elevation-trim-exclusive wheel design, namely the Black gloss painted aluminum rollers (RPO code RD3). We also know that this Sierra prototype is equipped with the X31 package by the tire spec, which includes Goodyear Wrangler rubber.

Further details this 2022 GMC Sierra prototype include a set of optional vertical towing mirrors, while the glimpses of the suspension and underbody reveal a set of Rancho monotube shocks courtesy of the X31 package, as well as some skid plate underbody protection.

In back, this refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra sports a dual exhaust treatment. While the Elevation trim typically rocks a single exhaust outlet, the addition of the X31 package ups the number of outlets to two.

As a reminder, the X31 package is offered as the “mild” off-roader upgrade in the GMC Sierra lineup, with the GMC Sierra AT4 offered as the more aggressive off-roading setup for dirt-loving enthusiasts.

The full X31 Off-Road package includes the following content:

  • Off-Road suspension
  • Hill Descent Control
  • Skid plates
  • Heavy-duty air filter
  • Rancho shocks
  • X31 hard badge
  • Integrated dual exhaust

The refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra is expected to deliver a number of significant changes, dropping in as a mid-cycle enhancement (MCE), per established GM parlance. Updates over the preceding 2021 model year include a new front and rear fascia design, plus a completely new cockpit, with an overhauled dash, center stack, center console, and new storage features. The 2022 GMC Sierra refresh will also include a larger central infotainment screen, and a new gauge cluster with the option for fully digital instrumentation.

Note that this upcoming refresh will only apply to the light-duty 2022 GMC Sierra 1500, while Heavy Duty Sierra models (2500HD / 3500HD) will march into the 2022 model year with only minor changes.

  • I've been scoping 2022 GM 1/2 tons out trying to see if any trucks besides the trailboss use the 4+1 leaf packs for the rear but we never get a good shot.

Hoping the regular trucks see big suspension improvements.

    • I just purchased a 2021 GMC SIerra SLT with the DuraMax Diesel. This truck has power, speed, and fuel economy that I never imagined possible in a 4x4. 29 MPG ave so far. My old DuraMax was strong but a bit sluggish and nothing like this one Fit and finish is way better than the RAMs I looked at. My only disappointment is the spongy suspension despite the X31 package. The truck feels a bit sedan like and I think GM could have stiffened the suspension about 25% without loss of ride quality. Otherwise a fine truck.

  • Sorry to point tgis out, your vehicles adter 2002 are completely a waste of materials. Still fracking with junk when you could be building better then that. Im into anti gravity generators now. Oh an your junk pop can vehicles are just that, adanger to the world an a waste of materials, money that dont exist and over all are not as tuff as vehicles from the 80s. Would love to see alot of the chicon plastic out an american stuff instead anyways.

    • Been looking. No official date. Well probably get a media notice about it 2 weeks before they reveal it. It’s not like a couple years ago where you could judge it’s release date by the size of the lot purchased at an auto show.

  • I just hope that GM does not mess up the headlights or front facia ,they’re still the most modern and better looking than competition , instead GM should solely focus on updating the outdated interior.

  • Has anyone seen a mule with a potential panoramic roof in it? Starting to wonder if it’s not gonna make it in the update.

  • Can anyone tell me exactly what is in the "HD suspension " package on the X-31 Sierra ? I know the X-31 has Rancho shocks, but what are the suspension differences ?
